• On a superficial level, burning wood sounds like a very good form of green energy. The tree makes wood by sequestering CO2 from the atmosphere through a solar-powered mechanism, and we can get back this energy by burning the wood.

    But of course, the tree does this to live its life at the rate that is comfortable to them. The process is not ‘efficient’ as a lot of the energy is ‘wasted’ as the tree lives its life. It takes a long time for a tree to grow, and trees take up space. This is obviously not an efficient way of generating energy, and those cutting down the forests know this very well. If this was efficient, then they would grow their own trees in their own space, rather than having to steal them from nature.
