I was hoping this would be an ARM chromebook that postmarketOS could also run on, but instead it’s just another intel laptop.

🥱

Doesn’t google even ship a generic ChromeOS that runs on any modern intel system now?

Unless I’m missing something, this “chromebook edition” appears to just be framework’s existing base model 12th-gen i5 laptop but with a Chromebook logo printed on it.

I’ve come here to say the same. ARM and RISC-V are the way forward. I have no interest in x86-64 devices anymore, specially for laptops.

They are the way forward, but I’d buy an AMD one right now 😞

…actually I see now that the blog post has a major buried lede: "With open source Embedded Controller firmware and coreboot BIOS, the underlying system software is open too."

afaik they didn’t have coreboot or an open EC before, so, that is a big improvement. but still, I hope I never buy another new x86 laptop.

I think Google makes that a requirement for Chomebooks, same with Mesa GPU drivers.

Oh right, framework. I should check in on them, see if they offer keyboardless systems.
