I would advocate for forcing proprietary schematics, processes and tech for bionic implant to become open source should the company behind it go bankrupt. This would facilitate either another company in the industry to develop suitable aftermarket replacements, or allow existing users to make some repairs of their own.
(I already know creditors would rather shred their stuff to prevent disclosing profitable trade secrets over benefiting the public good)
IMHO, it’s assault against someone to take a part of them without their consent. It should be treated as such.
Neurological and mental patients are treated like shit all the time. The medical industry doesn’t see them as fully human because a part of their brain doesn’t work the way doctors decided it should work. Legally, if you have certain mental or neurological conditions, doctors don’t need your consent to treat you or do anything else to you, and they’re allowed to abduct you if you don’t come in willingly.
