Reading articles like this reminds me of the incredible desperation that I experienced as a child. Growing up under such intense abuse, I could not imagine surviving into my twenties nor making it out of my teens. It was so bad that I had made plans to commit suicide at the age of 13. Something unknown reached out to me and it was enough to dig deep inside of my self in order to persevere. Please, don’t give up.
Is the mention of violence a trigger because of what you experienced in your childhood? I did not view this article as an exploration of desperation, but rather as an interview with people given a healthy outlet for their rightful anger at a system which devalues and dehumanizes them.
Part of it was the violence aspect and the other part was feeling dehumanized by my parents as a child.
