At that point why not just run a rolling release? Debians whole selling point is stability which backports kinda ruins.

Ahh I may have misunderstood sounds like you’re trying to “pin” applications to be launched. This is more app launcher than dock.

Wonder if rofi would suit your needs?
This is the main benefit. However, i’m finding the software I use requires less dependencies and libraries these days.
I barely even use flatpaks anymore. Almost everything is in official repos. I couldn’t tell you the last time I had a dependency conflict.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. From my experience there is no perfect solution, routines take time and effort to develop. You can put energy into developing routine, wake up one morning and find it doesn’t work anymore. It’s like trying to hit a constantly moving target.
My commentary is about the image. I view it as promoting acceptance of behaviors that are unhealthy. I resent the implication that I’m helpless to my impulses, when I have worked so hard to control them.
Not trying to invalidate anyone’s experience, just sharing mine

Yes, people with ADHD all experience things differently. My experiences don’t invalidate the experiences of others.

I know what ADHD is, I have spent 30 years working on controlling impulsive behaviors in my own treatment. I’m not always successful, but there are absolutely techniques that can help.

Most of these replies seem to assume I have no understanding or empathy for these problems. I just don’t like the image, and the implication that we have absolutely zero control over impulsive decision making.
To control impulses does not mean to cure them. My experiences as a person with ADHD are just as valid as everyone else’s.

I’m definitely a little of both

I can’t read the room I’m neurodiverse, and ADHD is my special interest

“stop trivializing and dismissing a real neurological condition because you lack the awareness to understand the condition doesn’t impact everyone the same.”
These are assumptions, you are assuming my intent behind my words. Without knowledge of me or my experiences.
We simply have different views, and that’s okay

Not really, you just made assumptions about my intent. I would love to understand why my experiences are patronizing to you?

Why do you feel that my experiences as a neurodiverse individual are patronizing?

I’m sorry you feel I’m being patronizing. I have been struggling with ADHD & Dyslexia my whole life. I do understand that the condition doesn’t effect everyone the same.

I’m not going to react in the way you appear to be seeking. I’m speaking from my own experiences, you are welcome to share yours and how they differ.

I avoid assuming things about people I don’t know

Yep! There is no perfect solution, it takes time and effort. Things can get better.

You can actually do things to control impulses. I feel like this is just giving license to unhealthy coping mechanisms. 🤷♂️
You have accurately identified a major part of the problem. Many people are unwilling to change their habits, or don’t have the patience to learn new tools.
The other element though is time, many people don’t have the time to stop and learn. Especially when a problem like privacy is a lot less immediate than hunger or healthcare.
