I’ll say it. Firefighters are just cops with less training and a bigger hero complex. Out on the streets they are toxic and domineering as hell without any justification for their authority outside of fighting fires.
The ones I’ve known wouldn’t even rescue a cat. The adult world isn’t a world where first responders are cuddly safe adults anymore, if it ever was.
No, I totally agree with that part. I wish people would move. I wish it was possible just to convince them to use a slightly different model of things. I’m absolutely disgusted in people’s inability to adapt or adjust to even the slightest changes. I’m definitely not advocating for them.
But PieFed is really a reddit model. People using Discord for chat and that type of more instant communication you really need both PieFed and Matrix.

Discord communities need a discord clone. It’s not rocket science.
Say matrix and I’d have agreed it’s good enough for a lot of people’s needs… But so is IRC. And that’s never been good enough to migrate Discord users.
The only way to kill Discord is a Discord clone like fosscord/Spacebar or some of the other similar projects.
You don’t replace Twitter with reddit and you don’t replace Discord with it either. That clearly, CLEARLY has not met the majority of users needs or we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
Also worth a mention is Spacebar.chat, formerly fosscord. This is my favorite overall, but sounds almost like it’s in the same spot as Fluxxer as far as where it is in the dev process.
But having used Discord heavily since 2016, I’ve got to say even at the time of pandemic I wouldn’t really have considered Discord itself “feature complete”, and really was it ever?
You are completely out of touch with the needs of literally everyone whose needs are slightly different than yours.
I think it serves part of the role of a Discord server, but ultimately it doesn’t really serve as a chat server or place for people to share screens etc.
It is one piece of the puzzle but it alone won’t work for the majority of people’s needs who are migrating a Discord community.
They. They outsourced it. Did we ever really have a voice in this? Did we have a choice in what they do with the capitol they control when they wish to reshape society around it? We need to commit to anticorporate lifestyles and genuinely reject their products and services at scale. Until that happens we’re spending our resources to enrich our enemies who use it against us.

Maybe regardless of what happens in 3 years time, right now the entire system is corrupt and you think we’re more likely to get justice now? Any testimony now would be useless. People who use corporate platforms do it because it’s easy. Joining matrix instances is pretty easy. Presenting Matrix like people need to host servers to use it is detrimental.
