A LOT of (especially former-colonies) countries started out socialist and many were communist. They all had to recede back to the *one stable model* eventually to survive. It has been inevitable, at least till date.
The only ones who have retained mild socialist elements like powerful public welfare, are those who have already matured as capitalist states, whose population load against state income is distinctively low, and whose society is (consequentially) high-trust enough not to immediately corrupt it.

In post war period in cities and towns housing was mostly communal living in a cheap barrack style buildings split in rooms. A family was usually granted a small room with shared toilet and kitchen. Pressure was created not by post war ruin (it sure didn't help but >90% of territory never saw a foot of German soldier, >50% of population lived east to the easternmost front line) but by aggressive industrialization that included resettlements and redevelopments of villages and smaller towns. Many houses were built by workers in their spare time after work, on a land granted by the state and using construction materials provided by the employer (ie factory or plant).
As the barracks aged and suffered from a terrible construction quality, over the next 10-15 years it put more pressure to have a better solution. Cue khrushchevka, late 50s/early 60s onwards. Then brezhnevki with some improvements over bare minimal "comfort" of previous gen, and eventually from 70s onwards to the end of soviets the massive prefab took hold. There were countless experimental projects at different times and in different configurations, from 3 storey alpha builds of Khrushchevkas to Kyiv's Podil 4 blocks project of late 80s
More pedantically: wartime destruction exacerbated the Soviet housing shortage, but it wasn't the fundamental explanation for the scale and duration of the postwar housing construction program.

The point is though, USA's ill treatment of those states hurt a major source of the USA's own soft and hard power and that is the difference between the two as President. Even accepting the premise Harris would have to wage a war with Iran because of the adversarial rhetoric, it wouldn't be waged this illegally, and it wouldn't be waged alone, with no regard for human life anywhere, on-again-off-again, which I argue would be less harmful for everybody. Trump did wage a 12 day bombing campaign in addition to this year's fighting. It might be plausible that Harris would find herself leading a similar in-n-out air campaign and that being the end of it. But most things are plausible, you and I can speculate. Going against Iran **twice** within the span a year, unprompted, just seems improbable to me. Iran has a vote in this too, and their response in closing the Hormuz Strait, having little left to lose, is part of why this is dragging on.
