NoYank. Remove All American Media And Culture From Your Life
@lemmy.ml
reason: First recommended American culture, then objected to not being allowed do that and started quarrellling.

Seems a little silly to remove my comment for mentioning the same authors that OP gives as examples. Mods here are toxic.

reason: cmon man - obv if you recommend american culture in a sub whose main thing is not-recommending american culture, then it gets removed. Common sense. Then you go stirring up drama.

Unfortunately, I'm your first comment and I'm going to disappoint a because I don't have any specific recommendations. But I do have an idea. If you're looking for the Dan Browns and Stephen Kings of the Spanish and French languages, why not start with translations of those authors into those languages? This might be especially useful if you read a story that you're already somewhat familiar with. A Spanish translation of "The Gunslinger" sounds like something I'd be interested in once my language skills improve. Also, abridged versions of novels are often written with younger readers in mind, so an abridged version might be more accessible. You've probably already done this and are looking for something more. I hope you get some better answers so I can check back here for recommendations too.

It's the tone of that show who's basic premise is "stubborn man tries to hold on to the past". Another show from the same writer (prequel to Yellowstone) has a very different narrative tone. Instead of lashing out against the passage of time, it has a hopeful wonder about the future and its possibilities. > Like God Decided To Light This Day With Candles, I Could See All Of Texas. It Was The Most Beautiful Thing I Had Ever Seen. > Freedom. To Most, It Is An Idea, An Abstract Thought That Pertains To Control. That's Not Freedom. That's Independence. Freedom Is Riding Wild Over Untamed Land With No Notion Any Moment Exists Beyond The One You're Living. It can also have dark narration but, at least to me, it wasn't overtly "macho" most of the time. > I Knew Nothing Of The Horror That Hides In Freedom's Shadow. EDIT: I watched "1886" and loved it. That led me to "Yellowstone", which I was not a fan of.
