This is a chronically online persons take on the Trump admin. Theyre not Nazis. Nazis were a political party, not an ideology. Trump is not a member of the national socialist german workers party. This is lazy reddit tier political analytics. Extremely juvenile knee jerk emotional reaction. Trump admins are showing alarming signs of authoritarian rule, backed by oligarchy. Any other fear mongering this administration is dishonest and not helpful and is distracting.

*Instead of Prisons* talks about restraint of the few, including specifically about rapists: > For the very small percentage of lawbreakers who need to be limited in movement for some periods of time in their lives, a monitoring and review procedure should be established with the goal of working out the least restrictive and most humane option for the shortest period of time. > [...] > For those sexual violents who do require temporary separation from society‑repetitive rapists, those who physically brutalize or psychologically terrorize and men who repeatedly sexually assault children‑places of restraint are needed while reeducation occurs. [mfw](https://imgflip.com/i/90jrxi) Is the author of that book actually an abolitionist by your standards? Because when I think of my opposition to abolitionism, it is because I want to restrain the few and I call that act imprisonment. Which I don't think is unreasonable. Why call yourself "prison abolitionist" if you want to have places of restraint for re-education?

[Some self-styled abolitionists](https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/prison-research-education-action-project-instead-of-prisons#toc149) seem to support prisons, though they call it "temporary and highly limited physical restraint and limited movement". Do you think socialist abolitionists disagree with these self-styled abolitionists on the necessity of these prisons, or would you argue that a place where you forcefully restrain people and prevent them from leaving is not a prison? If you think socialist abolitionists disagree with these self-styled abolitionists, how would you handle people that these self-styled abolitionists want to imprison - people who form an imminent threat to others for a longer period of time? If you think both forms of abolitionists would agree that places of forceful restraint where people are not allowed to leave are necessary, do you retract your claim that socialist abolitionists oppose prisons? If you do retract your claim, please edit the post to reflect that. If you don't retract your claim, it seems to me that you would have to assert that a place of forceful restraint where people are not allowed to leave should not be called a prison. Do you make that assertion? If no, then how do you square that circle? If yes, then why do you think that terminology shouldn't be used? Why distance yourself from the term "prison" when reconstructing the object?

Yes, of course there would be. History shows us that Socialism practically requires a large police force in order to function at all. Would it be worse than what America has now? That's a more controversial question, since USA's police is very fucked in some places. Would it be worse than what the best free societies have? Definitely yes it would.
