Removed Comment > since if I lose the device they’re connected to then I get locked out myself.
lmao that's the whole point. You __can't__ connect/logon without the second factor, which you've lost. This is intentional and by design because _it's secure_. Giving you a plethora of restoration options just increases your attack surface. What's the point of 2FA if I can impersonate you, say I lost my 2FA device, and have them reset your account? Now I just have to brute force your password and I'm in. 2FA no longer helps you.
Software based 2FA is superior and you can easily take your seed string to multiple 2FA systems. Like if you use Bitwarden as a password solution, you can import your 2FA seed into Bitwarden to have your 2FA TOTP within Bitwarden in addition to your phone or whatever other software you use. This way, if you lose your phone you can still login.
There are solutions and ultimately it's up to you to ensure that you have access to your account not because services are mean and want to hurt you, but because you're a big boy. They give you security tools and how you use them is up to you.

Removed Comment > Are you really sitting here trying to argue that big tech companies like Google and Microsoft somehow has our best interests at heart
No, I'm going to sit here and argue that you're a big boy blaming other people for your own mistakes. If Google is so _obviously evil and out to get you_ then don't use them. If you do, then that's your own fault, number one. Number two, you sound like some teenager that's yelling at their mommy because they lost their last $20 bill in the laundry. If you're so pissed, then do your own damn laundry...
Software based TOTP have plaintext seeds that are portable and you can add in multiple, hell, even hundreds of devices if you want. Why you __choose__ not to do that isn't anyone's fault but your own. That's how I do it. And you could punch me in the dick and steal my phone right now and I could have my Google password changed before you even get back to your house because I'm not a fuckin' idiot. I don't keep all my eggs in one basket, like you do, apparently.
Simple fact of the matter is, is that you have all the tools to make this a complete non-issue and actively choose to make it an issue for yourself... I'm not defending 2FA as perfect. It of course has flaws. But the portability of TOTP seeds isn't one of them.

Removed Comment What you are attempting to inform me of is not related to the topic at hand, since that topic is "skin color" and not "race". The only mental gymnastics here is you accusing me of racism when I talk about skin color while simultaneously telling me that the 2 are not related. by Ulrich ( Ulrich@feddit.org ) reason: Racism

Removed Comment I said "putting aside" because I don't want to discuss it, as it's not relevant to the OP, as it does not mention "race" (which also makes it extra ironic that you called me "racist" when, by your own statements, no one was talking about race).
> Race being culturally constructed does not prove a link between skin color and cultural behavior.
No, you can use simple observation skills to determine that. You've never heard of "black culture"? Never seen BET? Never heard a black person speak? Never heard racial comedy? Never heard of black neighborhoods? by Ulrich ( Ulrich@feddit.org ) reason: Racism

Removed Comment Putting aside the actual **batshit insanity** that is this statement:
> There is no biological foundation to the concept of race.
This was actually my point:
> Race is culturally constructed.
Race (and skin color) and culture are inextricably linked. Culture = "behavioral patterns". by Ulrich ( Ulrich@feddit.org ) reason: Racism
