I heard the ducks having a freakout in their yard - they were all gathered around this absolute specimen of a salamander with poor timing.

Here they are in all their icy torpor, before I removed them to a location not so out in the open.
During the relocation they warmed enough to begin moving, and they made a beeline up my arm (presumably for me to be able to hear their “thank you”[1]) but came to a stop shortly after leaving the warmth of my hands.
