The Dutch Military Intelligence Agency (MIVD) uncovered Chinese cyberespionage operations in the Netherlands. They discovered advanced Chinese malware being used to gain access to computer networks through vulnerabilities in FortiGate devices from Fortinet, which are used globally for cybersecurity. The MIVD first found this malware last year on an isolated network used for unclassified research and development by the military. Importantly, the MIVD has now publicly released a technical report on Chinese hacking operations for the first time in order to better attribute and counter such cyberespionage activities. The agency is asking organizations that find this malware to report it to the National Cyber Security Center so the Chinese spying campaign can be further disrupted.
