“Instead of a cogent vision for the country’s future, Mr. Trump is animated by a thirst for political power: to use the levers of government to advance his interests, satisfy his impulses and exact retribution against those who he thinks have wronged him,” the editorial continued. “He is, quite simply, unfit to lead.”
The scathing rebuke of Trump comes less than a week before the GOP officially nominates him to lead the party’s presidential ticket at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

I think they’re trying to follow the whims of Blue MAGA, who keep bringing up Donald Trump being unfit to lead as a whataboutism towards criticism of Biden. There’s been a lot of chatter about the news agencies being biased for not questioning Trump’s fitness but only focusing on Biden.

You’re looking for 1994, not 2009. This shitshow gained traction with Gingrich’s “Contract with America.” Up to that point, the GOP had been clandestine with their goals, and Reagan had only left office five years earlier.

It should seem odd that media calls to step down were not first directed to Trump. If we are calling for Biden to step aside because someone must stop Trump from bringing down the republic, then surely it would have made more sense to first call for Trump to step aside? (The Philadelphia Inquirer did). I know the counter-arguments: his people wouldn’t have cared, and he wouldn’t have listened. The first misses an important point. There are quite a few Americans who have not made up their minds. The second amounts to obeying in advance. If you accept that a fascist is beyond your reach, you have normalized your submission […]
