EDIT: @mindbleach@sh.itjust.works shared something that might help to circumvent this shit:

Contained in these parentheses is a zero-width joiner: ()

Basically, add those to whatever you feel that might be filtered out, then remove the parentheses. The content inside the parentheses is invisible, but it screws with regex rules.

    • RIP ;_;7

They’re really trying to repeat the fate of Digg, aren’t they? People would advertise the shit out of Reddit in Digg, to encourage users to move. Well - perhaps we should test if history does repeat itself.

  • You can’t save them. Whoever is willing and mentally agile enough to look for alternatives will find us. Honestly, at this point, I’d be glad if especially the folks commenting on Reddit’s mainstream subs did not join Lemmy and capture it with their boring, antiquated, views and extremely repetitive quips.

Yes, it is a shadowban. It fits perfectly what you said: the posts and comments are filtered and hidden from the others.

Here is another proof that this is a shadowban:

Left: the content is shown to the user when they’re logged in, and they can still submit new content.

Right: the content is not shown to someone who is logged off.

On the other hand, a typical suspension leaves the content visible for everyone else, it tells the user “you’ve been permanently suspended from Reddit [insert gaslighting message]”, and the user cannot submit new content.

Note that a shadowban is considerably worse than a suspension. Not that I care, though - I’m sharing this here because it is relevant for people trying to convince others to migrate to the Fediverse.

did they say you reported too much? on several accs, i had either a temp ban from that sub, or instant lecture from a mod, saying “you cant report this person, just because you dont like his comment” i was thinking then, what is a reportable offense, like its spamming/botting, isnt that reportable, like do you want me to engage and argue, which makes its worst?. my most recent one which got me the recent ban was "you can report this much in this sub, and we think you are “brigading” so we are temporarily banning you sitewide, which triggered the sites AI bot to ban multiple accounts sitewide without giving a reason. how can you say you are fighting botting/spamming from countries like RU when your MODS, and admins are banning the reporter. turns out your site needs the RU bots, simply because they make close to half of comments and engagement in certain communities.

i reported similar issues, either botting/or something totally untrue, and what they said was" oh you had made too many reports, we are now suspending your whole account temporarily, i deleted the acct. i dont think they warned anyone of a random ban, thats why i said it was pretty indiscriminate, they just want any amount of acc banned, so they can show to thier potential investors, its a clean site. i appealed on each of my other accts that perma ban all denied, by a bot, obviously. i think it auto-denies if its been sitewide banned

          • Temp? Mine was perms…

Auto-Denies eh? That explains why I hadn’t heard from anyone. Didn’t even get a deny message really.

It was actually my second perma-ban, I had one before in which I badmouthed Gina Carano, stating that I disagreed with her transphobia and was happy she was gone from the show…

I had been mass-reported for threatening to kill Gina Carano, and clearly it was a bot that just saw the volume of reports, I was unbanned within minutes of sending an appeal because it’s pretty easy to see that I said nothing of the sort, it was just Right-Wing Trolls.

I got Right Wing Trolls A LOT, they’d also mass report any post where I pointed out I was trans (regardless of context) for “Advocating for suicide and self-harm.”

I must have gotten the “A concerned redditor has reached out to us and we wanted to let you know there’s help out there…” message more often than actual ban messages.

They really should have thought of investors before becoming “Banishment: The Website”, not gonna be easy to sell a product no one’s allowed to actually use…

            • i think you were brigaded(a large amounts of people that mass report someone to get them banned) right wingers/trolls will do this. some mods are very anal about how you report"did they respond to your comment" or "dint bother commenting and just reported someone.

yea once you get reported in large numbers its probably very hard to defend yourself, because these right wing trolls are using multiple different accounts. because the mods/filters are going to assume"oh its a bot trolling"

on a side note: i was “wretched” when people were defending gina carano on a youtube channel where she was a characther in deadpool"saying disney ruined her career"

Good, I was getting fed up with being told over there that Canadians are useless and can’t make a difference… this just tells me they’re worried because we ARE making a difference🍁

Not sure where they’re all coming from, but there’s this group who are there just to harass Canadians and they’ve been noticeably growing in numbers. One recent post was a very detailed, well-written plan about how the US is going to take over Canada, step by step. So it’s not just small-time nonsense anymore. It’s bad.

smells more like back by troll farms for RU, they always do this kind of sht. remember they had to use jack prosebic to astroturf luigi news last month. since canadians, hopefully are cancelling thier plans to florida, the state is going to suffer massively if nobody visits pro-gop disney parks

RU as russian bots, drive alot of engagement(mostly in political subs, and news subs, they are behind all the misinformation in social media) and have been known to subsists most of the comments in those subs, luigi was the guy that shot a health insurance CEO, and everyone but the billionaires and thier MSM were applauding him. overtime news about luigi was being suppressed by reddit, and and on msms as well, as recently as last month a "social media influencer by the name of jack proesebic(owner of end wokeness) tried to astroturf him, and the account(jack who married a “russian-back wife” works as influencer for putin, similar to other right wing griftersd)

    • thats actually new thing to me, i have seen alot of the famous subs have upped thier filters, i avoid them by filtering out those subs from my feed. also people might make a mistake by accidentally commenting on the sub they were ban years ago, apparently the filters doesnt discrminate or clear itself once your bans are lifted or years old.

It’s suck, but if you make reddit account again, wait for around 3 month, or 1 year just to safe before comment. Or you can comment on smaller subreddit but don’t make post. Just comment

Subreddit like r/linux shadowban you if you make post if your account too new

may have to try that. i was in a forum, where people are create tons/buying of accs at once and trying to comment in less than 1 week, i was thinking these people should chill especially with the bans going on(and these are the OF accs, using evasion methods) and your making things worst by increasing reddits filter sensitivity to bots and people that are flying under the radar are getting caught as well(these people who are using more advanced techniques to evade bans have 50+accs). i am aware of several subs that will ban/remove comments you asap if your karma and acc age isnt high enough.
