The parent may then be asked to consent to a scan of their face using a front-facing camera, which is then used to “accurately estimate the parent’s age.”
the only piece of information that is communicated to the company requesting [Verifiable Parental Consent] is a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ determination as to whether the person is over the age of 25.
So that’s settled, people under the age of 25 can no longer have children.

This sounds so dystopian and completely unnecessary. What’s the point of a facial age estimate if you are asking them to put their age or DOB in to begin with? It’s pointless.

Agreed.
Probably to make it harder to lie.

So basically, they’re not even using it to stop kids from buying games, just as verification when a kid signs up for a service. It’s a good thing a kid would never just change their age and say they’re 50 or something, and are always completely honest about their ages.
Also, a large company crying because nobody trusts them not to sell every piece of information they receive brings me joy inside.
