Long since time the prez appoint some ‘acting chiefs’ – this represents a clear and present threat, and not just from our rivals on the world stage.
Raise_a_glass ( @Raise_a_glass@kbin.social ) 12•2 years agoThe only reason Tuberville is able to hold things up is because the senate generally votes on these all at once and that type of vote is required to be unanimous. If republicans want to play games, the senate majority leader should bring up these high level positions one at a time and hold normal votes.
It wastes time, but at least it helps get around this nonsense. neptune ( @neptune@dmv.social ) English8•2 years agoIs Tuberville running for President? Of Belarus? Really no explanation for this besides bad faith, in the worst sense.
btaf45 ( @btaf45@kbin.social ) 2•2 years agoWhy do Republicans hate America?
FaceDeer ( @FaceDeer@kbin.social ) 4•2 years agoRepublican Senator Tommy Tuberville, who represents Alabama, has blocked hundreds of military nominations from moving forward, saying the Pentagon is improperly using government funding to cover travel costs for abortions for service members and their dependents.
Huh. Not the excuse I would have imagined, but somehow not at all surprising.

The world is not a theatre and I’m not an extra in an audition for the lead actor. Perhaps a more collaborative approach would yield better results and fewer perceived threats.

I wasn’t implying that the US’s world stage rivals were literal individual people auditioning to act in an actual theatre production.

antangil ( @antangil@beehaw.org ) 1•2 years agoDon’t we have the concept of recess appointments to cover these shenanigans? Wait for congress to recess, fill the posts, rinse and repeat.
