Google says it’s working on a fix, but as usual, manufacturers will need to update.
BedSharkPal ( @BedSharkPal@kbin.social ) 8•2 years ago“Android 12 added an easy-access feature for emergency services: just press the power button five times, and your phone will dial emergency services for you”
Man, who could have seen this one coming?!
CaptainApathetic ( @cptapathetic@rustyshackleford.cfd ) 4•2 years agoHoly shit that is a monumentally stupid feature.
Punkster812 ( @Punkster812@kbin.social ) 2•2 years agoI got frustrated and accidently triggered it. Very next thing I did was track down how to disable it in settings.
Alfuh ( @Alfuh@kbin.social ) 2•2 years agoI recently thigh dialed while in the middle of a trail race. Hung up before it was answered, but the deputy of course called back. I had to answer somewhat out of breath, which made things even worse as he suspected I was in trouble. Pretty annoying “feature” :(
Mars2k21 ( @Mars2k21@kbin.social ) 2•2 years agoI was trying to screenshot a picture on my Pixel in the YouTube app, but a recurring bug just completely froze my phone. I tried multiple ways of turning it off (I didn’t know about the forced restart at the time, which is done by holding the power button down for 30 seconds ) and eventually it accidentally called emergency services. The problem is that I couldn’t tell them it was a false alarm because…well, my phone was frozen. Was very embarrassing when the dispatcher arrived suddenly, although he was very understanding about it.
After restarting my phone, I immediately turned off the shortcut. Never again.
“911, what’s your emergency?”
“I urgently need to take a screenshot of this youtube video to post on social media.! Help!”
clb92 ( @clb92@kbin.social ) 2•2 years agoMy thigh once called emergency services three times in a row. I only noticed it when the third call was started. Happened because my slightly sweaty thigh activated the screen (double tap to wake) and pressed the Emergency button on the OnePlus lock screen.
RedditExodus ( @RedditExodus@kbin.social ) 2•2 years agoMy wife accidentally activated this on her Pixel. The phone was in a mount on her motorcycle handlebars and some bumpy terrain moved the phone in a way that the power button was pushed 5 times by the mount.
