Ontario is getting hotter. What can cities do to keep residents safe as temperatures rise?

  • Given how friendly the current Ontario government is to landlords, I don’t see it being legislated. That being said, I think it’s gotten harder for LLs to refuse a tenant paying to have one installed themselves.

  • That would be nice. I’m currently melting in my rented late 1800s house. I am lucky in that I have a small, cheap portable AC in my bedroom but can’t really afford an AC for every room.

I do wonder though, would our current hydro infrastructure be able to handle everyone running an AC in the increasingly hot summers? With electric cars gaining popularity and more and more people needing AC, we really should be upgrading our infrastructure as quickly as possible.
