Vancouver Canucks forward Nils Hoglander was assessed a match penalty and ejected from the game against the San Jose Sharks for intent to injure forward Kevin Labanc.
Intent to injure?
Based on that call, any sort of pushing or shoving should be called.
No intent to injure in my opinion. However a slew foot is an automatic match penalty. And that might be close enough. Highly inconsistent to other calls though. Should have been a 2 minute tripping or interference call in my opinion.
Also I am fairly certain you can hear Marchand laughing in the background somewhere when the penalty is called.
Intent to injure is for sure a stretch, but no doubt about the slew foot. Is match penalty an appropriate penalty for this? I know it can be dangerous, but it seems a 5min major would be adequate.
