Although Russian businesses have been “more or less” able to adjust to the changing circumstances after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia will face a severe labor shortage in the long run, says Natalia Zubarevich, Professor of the Department of Economic And Social Geography of Russia at the Moscow State University. The long-term outlook for her country’s economy is grim.

  • Unfortunately for a lot of Russians, these demographic changes and challenges were already the present and future for Russian before they invaded Ukraine. This conflict has accelerated and worsened them while also putting the nation in a worsened position for industry and immigration. It’s hard to see a way forward for the nation that doesn’t involve things getting much worse for decades, and even then we have to assume that we don’t have another attempt to “take back” their former glory and position through force, which feels inevitable as things continue to degrade.
