minus-square GolfNovemberUniform ( @GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml ) linkfedilink29•7 months agoThere were such attempts in the past… The false positive rates were around 30-80%…
minus-square Matomo ( @Matomo@lemmy.ml ) linkfedilink14•7 months agoTo be fair towards Reddit here, AI now is vastly different and more capable for this kind of stuff than it was years ago.

minus-square Matomo ( @Matomo@lemmy.ml ) linkfedilink5•7 months agoI agree. What’s your point? I’m not defending the choice to use AI for that purpose. I’m saying AI from years ago can’t be compared to the current AI
minus-square queermunist she/her ( @queermunist@lemmy.ml ) linkfedilink4•7 months agoThat this isn’t going to work and will probably make things worse.

minus-square survivalmachine ( @survivalmachine@beehaw.org ) linkfedilink10•7 months agoAlso to be fair to this idea, the quality of human moderators on Reddit is drastically worse than it was several years ago.
minus-square GolfNovemberUniform ( @GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml ) linkfedilink6•7 months agoWhen it comes to moderation, I don’t really think so tbh. And it’s unfair to use it anyways so it doesn’t matter
minus-square Matomo ( @Matomo@lemmy.ml ) linkfedilink2•7 months agoI agree it’s not fair, unless there’s some human element to it that checks and corrects the AI’s choices. That said, modern AI is pretty capable of recognising something like harassment, I’d say. Just to be clear, I’m not defending Reddit for choosing AI over human moderation
minus-square GolfNovemberUniform ( @GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml ) linkfedilink4•7 months agoAfaik AI algorithms are already widely used to find and flag violations but human element is still needed in order to make a decision. Fully automated systems should never be there in my opinion
