This is the first post in the new folk music community. Use this to say hello and, if you want to, say what kind of tradition you come from or are into. I’ll begin saying that I am mostly making and listening to western european traditions, such as Irish jigs and reels or scandinavian polskas.
Hello. Thank you for making this community. I live in Scotland and listen to traditional musics from around the world. My favourite instrument is the kamancheh (Persian spiked fiddle) and my favourite traditions are Romani and Balkan Brass.
Yer welcome! I would like to hae a listen tae yer favourite yer Persian music. Apart from the drumming of Mohammad Mortazavi, I know embarassingly little of it.
PS: A propos Scotland: Silly Wizard FTW!
Aye Silly Wizard were great.
For a start with kamancheh, a gentle piece from Habil Əliyev (Azerbaijan), https://piped.adminforge.de/watch?v=bLCXGDV1w1k
Kayhan Kahlor (kamancheh) and Ali Akbar Moradi (lute)'s -In The Mirror Of The Sky-, entire album is on youtube. It’s compelling, mesmerizing and utterly brilliant. Kurdish, with Iranian classical. https://piped.adminforge.de/watch?v=sjRYhi_4lBY
Anything from Kayhan Kahlor is worth listening to IMO. https://piped.adminforge.de/watch?v=jMEjPKBvhzE
