• Germans have a car fetish and are conservative, selfish and narrow minded. It is unlikely that there is a significant amount of people to give up their beloved fossil engine. In my circles there have been only one person that swapped a car for public transport.

      However, the (neo)liberal party inhibits any follow up, so it doesn’t really matter anyway. Common arguments include that the rural areas would subsidise the urban areas because of the lack of public transport in rural areas, and that they would have to save elsewhere (e.g. education) to fund it.

      My view might be a little bit too pessimistic though.
