I don’t have much of a problem either way as I don’t think I’ll be engaging in political discussion on this website past this post but it seems like any sort of non-left wing opinions or posts are immediately trashed on here. That’s fine. There’s clearly a more liberal audience here and that’s okay. I just don’t want Lemmy to become a echo chamber for any side and it seems to be that way when it comes to politics already.

Mostly making this post just to drum up discussion as I’m new here.

Edit: Thanks for the rational replies. I was expecting to get lit up for even mentioning this topic lol.

I’m sure there’s a sizable portion of people who fit the bill, but by and large they’re the minority of the conservative party. There’s less of the group you’re describing than there are outright proud fascists on 4chan, that’s my point. Fascists/alt-right that were on reddit and are jumping ship aren’t goign to spring for a lemmy instance, they’re just going to spend more time on 4chan.

One other quick point for the above:

That group is not only the minority of the conservative party, they’re also the lowest impact and least committed. That’s your “grifter” class, the cryptotechbros, the “let me tell you about my new NFT” type. They’re not the rural white guy who has a road beer on his way home who can’t conceptualize the world beyond his zip code unless it’s through a TV or cell phone. The rural white guy will never support someone who is LGBT for stupid reasons like purity or “not how its supposed to be”. The cryptofascist is jut an asshole who can’t admit he’s a sadist yet and likes to see others in pain.
