Quasars are the supermassive black holes at the centres of early galaxies. Scientists have unlocked their secrets to use them as ‘clocks’ to measure time near the beginning of the universe.
I was aware of the expansion of space but not of the acceleration of time. It’s a strange feeling being reminded the universe is neither robust nor eternal but “just” a thing like another slowly degrading into who knows what else. Fortunately for our purposes its close enough.
Obligatory joke: No need for scientists to tell us simple folk every thing keeps going faster and faster. We noticed.
