OpenMW is a modern free and open source game engine for Morrowind, and it's really getting close to a release of version 0.48 now with another Release Candidate ready for more testing.
Honestly, this project continues to amaze me. There are a few things I would still consider improvements, such as allowing several different installations of Morrowind in different languages to be handled more easily. I wonder whether the Data folder management of this update could move towards that feature.
Recently, I struggled getting the flatpak version to run again after having used it before. I couldn’t get the sound to work. I ended up just downloading the binary release on GitHub instead and it worked brilliantly. Sadly, setting a resolution different from my monitor’s native resolution seems to no longer be working for me, maybe it’s related to my switch to Wayland, which means I’m forced to play in widescreen.
