A mix between people actually wanting spousal rape to remain legal, people not giving a fuck about feeemale issues, people getting scared that “they can’t even talk to women soon without getting arrested” and probably a few other reasons that range from dumb to malicious.
A hundred years ago (give or take a few) it was quite legal for young children to work.
Go back a hundred more, and it’s slavery.
And this is just in the “western” world.
In summary: why “just” now? Because that’s how humanity works. And also, this (and any other “progress”) may revert in the future. Because that’s how humanity works.
