At least two people were arrested Wednesday for alleged fraud and misuse of millions of dollars in taxpayer money that was intended to combat the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles, officials announced.

What is annoying to me is, why isn’t something in place to audit these people initially? There are no real gaurd rails in place to deter people from fraud…and then what happens to the money when these people are caught? Sending them to jail is the right call but that ALSO being on the taxpayers dime feels kinda crazy to me. So is the money just gone and that’s it?

I mean, how do you think they were arrested?

The rate of fraud for these programs compared to say, wage theft, is so ridiculously low - we just pay si much more attention to these sorts of things because they’re required to disclose information about it, and the media loves that shit.
