Welcome to Numbat Facts.
Numbats are the only member of the family Myrmecobiidae. This saves them a great deal of money not buying presents this time of year.
- just_kitten ( @just_kitten@aussie.zone ) 3•10 months ago
All I know is that family name has some reference to ants.
- Catfish ( @6368_39162@aussie.zone ) 3•10 months ago
Yes! And eating them. Same base Greek word for soldiers at Troy being called myrmidons.
- Thornburywitch ( @Thornburywitch@aussie.zone ) English2•10 months ago
Specifically Achilles’ soldiers - presumably wore armour that resembled ant thoraxes. Bit of a change from the standard boar’s tusk helmet popular on the day.
- Catfish ( @6368_39162@aussie.zone ) 2•10 months ago
I’ve always thought of it as a swarming thing.
- Thornburywitch ( @Thornburywitch@aussie.zone ) English3•10 months ago
Bronze age armies were very small, so I’m not sure swarming was possible. Interesting thought though.
- Alamutjones ( @Alamutjones@aussie.zone ) 12•10 months ago
Just signed a new contract today.
Pay rise before Christmas, yaaaaas

- Bottom_racer ( @Bottom_racer@aussie.zone ) 6•10 months ago
Only 17 quadrillion flies to go!
- CEOofmyhouse56 ( @CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone ) 4•10 months ago
It’s cocked and loaded. I’m ready.
- ReadEverything ( @ReadEverything@aussie.zone ) 9•10 months ago
Sky pretty
- Rusty Raven ( @RustyRaven@aussie.zone ) 2•10 months ago
Very pretty. I could only see a sliver of it from my window. That is the only downside of having a day off work, the building I work in has awesome views of the sunrise over the Dandenongs.
- ReadEverything ( @ReadEverything@aussie.zone ) 2•10 months ago
For me it’s the only upside of getting up early for work.
- Bottom_racer ( @Bottom_racer@aussie.zone ) 9•10 months ago
Dins!
Again not a soul on that beach was perfect.

Rothenburg Christmas market! Unfortunately it closed so early that we didn’t get to go to it after dinner, which was sad. Also the famous Plonlein. Rothenburg is so beautiful. If you like beautifully preserved medieval walled cities, this is a gem.
- Seagoon_ ( @Seagoon_@aussie.zone ) 4•10 months ago
I admit, living in a medieval city is a joy ( I lived in Brussels for ten years,) , feels very much like home. Living in a 400 year old house is a bit difficult, they are cold, draughty and the plumbing and electricity is iffy
- calhoon2005 ( @calhoon2005@aussie.zone ) 4•10 months ago
I grew up in England for a stretch. The local pub down the end of the road had been there since 1480. Still had the same wooden beams at head height throughout.
- Seagoon_ ( @Seagoon_@aussie.zone ) 4•10 months ago
people were shorter in ye olde hobbit days
- wscholermann ( @wscholermann@aussie.zone ) 3•10 months ago
I actually was extremely underwhelmed by Brussels. I loved Bruge though.
- Seagoon_ ( @Seagoon_@aussie.zone ) 3•10 months ago
Bruge is nice for tourists . Brussels is nice to live in… 😊 I found Ghent and Tongeren interesting.
- Llabyrinthine ( @Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone ) 2•10 months ago
Living for these updates!
- calhoon2005 ( @calhoon2005@aussie.zone ) 7•10 months ago
Walking the doggo and a fly went up my nose…and didn’t come out. I guess that’s it then. It’s been nice knowing you all.
- Rusty Raven ( @RustyRaven@aussie.zone ) 6•10 months ago

- Bottom_racer ( @Bottom_racer@aussie.zone ) 5•10 months ago
That’s 2 flies down today. 16.9 recurring quadrillion to go!
- Bacon ( @baconmash@aussie.zone ) 3•10 months ago
i once crushed a fly in my mouth when it flew in while i took a bite of a burger
- CEOofmyhouse56 ( @CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone ) 7•10 months ago
I don’t want to take anything away from the numbats appreciation week but can we spend a moment admiring the late David Bowie’s fashion sense. It’s quite a mild look this month.
- Thornburywitch ( @Thornburywitch@aussie.zone ) English3•10 months ago
Winter in the UK. Also he always was one for doing the opposite of everyone else’s expectations.
- calhoon2005 ( @calhoon2005@aussie.zone ) 3•10 months ago
i’ve not seen him with that gorgeous hair before
- CEOofmyhouse56 ( @CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone ) 2•10 months ago
Me neither that’s why it was a little bit of a shock.
- melbourne_wanderer ( @melbourne_wanderer@aussie.zone ) 6•10 months ago
when netflix fucked off password sharing, we cancelled our subscription.
I’m house sitting for a friend for a few days, and have just spent about half an hour mindlessly scrolling netflix and can’t find a single thing I want to watch that I haven’t already seen.
I feel even better about my decision.
Edit: I lied, I half-heartedly watched the Beckham thing

The magical combo of stremio + torrentio + realdebrid has let me enjoy so much for very little expense or effort. It’s great!
- calhoon2005 ( @calhoon2005@aussie.zone ) 3•10 months ago
I’m still a fan of Kodi+Seren+real-debrid
- CEOofmyhouse56 ( @CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone ) 3•10 months ago
I’m trying to watch as much as I can on Stan before whomever’s account it is decides to tighten their belt.
- melbourne_wanderer ( @melbourne_wanderer@aussie.zone ) 3•10 months ago
these people have Stan, too. I remember Stan being quite shit when it started, but looking at it now there’s a fair bit of good stuff there! Reckon I might sign up for a fee months when I get home.
- CEOofmyhouse56 ( @CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone ) 3•10 months ago
Dr Death is really good. 2nd season is due out this month. At the moment I’m watching The Tourist which is oh my lordy good.
- just_kitten ( @just_kitten@aussie.zone ) 6•10 months ago
Geez this flight to Canberra is packed and hot! Pretty chuffed with myself that I got everything done on time - dishes, bins, all the packing, really glad for this baggage scale I got from my brother as the gate staff were steadfastly checking all the carry on bags… For a 42 minute flight. Even though I don’t have the satisfaction of having finished all my work projects I’m glad to be getting away!
- Nath ( @Nath@aussie.zone ) 2•10 months ago
I had a client based in Melbourne, but with an office in Canberra. I used to get sent there for day jobs occasionally. I rather liked those missions. I was paid from the minute I left home until I got back, and they paid for everything (meals etc).
It’s a neat thing about working in Melbourne that I do miss. It’s so close to Sydney and Canberra. Fly for two hours from Perth, you might have left the state. Just.
- CEOofmyhouse56 ( @CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone ) 6•10 months ago
This is a PSA. The BBL (big bash league) starts tonight at 7:30 with Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars. I know what youse are thinking yeah we love cricket but for those who have never watched it’s a 20/20 game that’s quick, fun and you get to watch a lot of slogs into the stands for charity.
Some players are mic-ed up and have a little banter with the commentators for a real feel good game. So guys get on it and support one of our Melbourne teams. Either the Melbourne Stars (green) or the Melbourne Renegades (red).
P.s. Stars home ground is the MCG. The Renegades is at Marvel. Melbourne and Sydney are the only 2 states to have 2 teams in the comp.
- bull⚡ ( @bull@aussie.zone ) English2•10 months ago
I’m a Renegades guy purely because I live right next to Marvel Stadium. I didn’t go to any matches last year but I’ll try to get downstairs for at least a couple this year!
- CEOofmyhouse56 ( @CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone ) 2•10 months ago
I’m a Renegades fan too! The man is a Stars fan so there’s always a bit of banter going on. I’m gonna try to get to a few games this year as well.
- Duenan ( @Duenan@aussie.zone ) 2•10 months ago
I hope they’re as entertaining as the women’s league. I do love the banter they provide in the WBBL. Grace Harris is a cracker.
Also test cricket starts next week on Thursday at 1pm in Perth.
- Rusty Raven ( @RustyRaven@aussie.zone ) 6•10 months ago
Dinner has been eaten and I’m still hungry. I was very close to eating the portion set aside for lunch tomorrow.
I think this calls for an emergency apple crumble. With custard.
- TinyBreak ( @TinyBreak@aussie.zone ) 5•10 months ago
So I finally finished Only Murders in the Building. Maaaan that was not the best season hey. It lost so much of itself. I mean, they hardly did any podcasting at all. Hope they can right the ship for season 4.
- bull⚡ ( @bull@aussie.zone ) English2•10 months ago
That doesn’t bode well… I have been meaning to start season 3.
- cherryripesalmoncake ( @cherryripesalmoncake@aussie.zone ) 1•10 months ago
I bailed on ep 1 or 2. Good luck.
- Force_majeure123 ( @Force_majeure123@aussie.zone ) 5•10 months ago
Work Christmas party tomorrow. 12.30 knock off and free calories. excellent 👌 Edit: it also seems to be the season indeed. Few work mates and I all wanted after works drinks and the first two places we tried were reserved for private functions!

😹 going through my folders and found this old collaborative thingamybob. Peacocks, cowboy aliens, dinosaurs, and a FSM dispensing much plonk.
Welcome to my brain, it is a tad different
