Bot needs more coffee to stay awake long enough to post a thread. ☕
I miss living in Melbourne. And there is so much more options for my little one. If (and when) I finish my education degree I’m going to seriously consider moving back. At least working in school I might avoid the ridiculous travel times like I had when I had to work in the city.
Haha, were in opposites here. My MIL is DESPERATE for us to sell and move to Launceston. And TBH, if I could find work it’d be a tempting proposition. I don’t know why I life in Melbourne any more. Its great till you have to deal with the people. Heck even Drouin/Warragul is more tempting at this point.
@danwritesbooks @Thornburywitch where are you? I moved to La Trobe Valley a year ago and love it (though I still am back in the city every second week for work) and hope the local school stays open (heard rumours it might close) though once child is high school age will consider moving back for 5 years.
Every fibre of my being wishes today was Saturday…
E: also, holy COW the Medicare safety net is amazing. 475 psychiatrist appt, would’ve been ~265 out of pocket with the normal rebate. Today the full safety net rebate came through - I’ve paid $46 out of pocket for a 90 minute consult. That’s less than 10% of the total fee. Awesome.
I have just spent way too long comparing electricity plans now that my Lumo contract is about to run out. Looks like I’ll be moving from Lumo to Sumo for power, and to Alinta for gas. I hate that we have to contantly be doing this to get a decent price, and it sucks that the people who can’t have to pay more. Why do we allow people who can’t constantly stay on top of this sort of thing to be taken advantage of? It might be popular to call it a “lazy tax” but it is really an extra cost burden on the vulnerable.
Im currently jumping NBN provider every 6 months to get the best deal. its crazy, when you call them at the end of the 6 month deal they go “Oh we cant possibly match the price we’ve already been giving you!”, ok well, someone else will so like, byeeeeee.

yep, $475 a year just to have the electricity connected. The impact of time of use pricing is interesting too - I save a few hundred dollars a year by having time of use instead of a flat rate. One with demand pricing - time of use, plus more expensive over summer - was also a close one. I might revisit the idea after summer, it could be worth changing to it for winter but if we have a hot summer and I use more air conditioning it would be expensive.

Are you me? I got the email from Lumo last week saying my current rates will go up in August… spent the morning trying to compare different ones and signed up to AGL as they offer the cheapest 😳
I think a lot of people changed to them just before the last major increase. They were cheaper and they locked the price until August - although at the time I was more concerned about the gas increasing.
Hey lovely peoples. I’m just lying on the couch, waiting for a nap to come along while scrolling through job listings. My brain is mush and I’ve dealt with my fair share of nonsense this week. Just thought I’d say tgif - from my couch to your couch.
hey
heyhey
From my couch to your couch rest up now cos you deserve it.
I have made it as far as the train. To work I go
Hi-ho, hi-ho.
Tonight I watched A Man Called Otto and even though I read the book and knew what it was about, I still cried through the movie. And. I. Never. Cry. At. Movies. Ever. It’s not even a true story for goodness sakes. Pull yourself together old girl.
Is that the one about the guy who drives the school bus in Springfield?
His name it Otto, he likes to get blotto.
Heartbreaking story?
Decided to go in to work today so I can give myself an early finish to go shopping. Someone had just freshly hit massive deer, easily a 400kg male (the deer not the person who hit it) poor thing.
I always thought that hitting a deer or moose is something only seen in Canada. TIL.
On another note, I’ve never seen a deer in my 8 years in Melbourne. But I’ve seen deer in Indonesia.
They are a big issue up in the hills! We also see a lot of other hit wildlife, sadly a lot of wombats too.
They’re an invasive species, added by people who wanted to hunt them and surprise surprise we now have an issue.
You can always count on a Witch to save the day when the Bot has been tricked by the mischievous Cat again…
The burgers are better at my house.

Cheers everybody 🍻
You have the basket things. Fancy.
Hahaha. Yeah I had to have them when I saw them for 2 bucks each at Coles one day :)
Beautiful.
Very very nice!!! Tell me what cheese did you use there?
Looks so beautiful melted on the patty.
They are called sandwich slices smoky flavour Coles brand. You can get Woolies brand too but I found them to be a bit strong in the smoky flavouring.
Oh wow! I want one!
I don’t deliver
No worries, I’ll come to you 😬
Let’s share an uber?
Deal!
Nom!
This has inspired me…
I know the plate isn’t supporsed to be special but the whole thing just looks 👌
ETA: lol I’m leaving supporsed there. Matches my brain abilities right now. Supposed.
The paper plate is a Friday night special because I’m not doing dishes tonight.
Now that’s an idea!
We need a Rate My Plate community.
Show me a piece of toast and I’ll still give it 5/5

Good job Thornburywitch!
Poor Botbot didn’t make it tonight
No thread automated at midnight
A few witnesses to its plight
Its code Raven will have to fight
Check it out, make it tightSomething something something I’m tired the end
Poor Botbot tried hard,
It fought the good fight,
But something went wrong,
The code wasn’t rightThe culprit was json,
He ran Botbot ragged,
With the constant refrain,
“Response is invalid”
Didn’t end up going out, because we couldn’t be bothered braving the cold to go to Footscray haha. Stayed in, about to crack another bottle of wine, and listening to my everthing playlist. The cat is warm and lovely, very pleased we stayed home. He’s so chatty, yelled at me to pick him up and just hold him.
I don’t mind showing my face, (image description: tabby/white cat lying on my face - dont mind my kitchen behind me)

So actors are on strike. Fran Drescher had a really passionate speech that had me in tears.
Hard to feel sorry for Actors in this cost of living crisis. I know its more about the writers, and TBH larger issues in general. but this is capitalism. Its a system BUILT to exploit workers. They all profited so well for so long and NOW they care about the little guy? NOW they say this system isnt fair? Late is better than never, but again… come crying to me when you have a mortgage go up by 700 bucks in 12 months. EDIT: I will say she is VERY well spoken on the issue.
The SAG is more than just the big-name celebs that come to mind when we think of “actors/actresses”. It also covers all the extras and up-and-coming talent who aren’t powerful enough to have negotiating power. One of the causes behind the strike are the parasites wanting to pay extras a day’s work ($187) to come in and get a full body scan done so they can continue to use their likeness in perpetuity.
Yeah, obviously you can’t feel sorry for the big name actors like Meryl Streep or Leonardo DiCaprio. But the actors who have to be on multiple shows or movies per day, per week just to break even. There’s an actor on a show (I forgot the name P Nation? I could be wrong) who got cheques in the mail from SAG and the royalties don’t even make $10USD. Like, yes, obviously the big name actors who weren’t out striking with the writers, sure. But the smaller ones, the extras, the ones who are trying to get even a speaking role, I do sympathise with them.
I also obviously sympathise with the writers, as someone who is a writer myself, their concerns are 100% valid. Especially with AI, the amount of stories coming out of publishing magazines who have to shut down submissions because so many dickheads tried to get their story written by ChatGT and whatever else AI out there is staggering, so much that it affects writers who have never been published, or like me, have only been published in a few things here and there.
Understand that. But this is the way its been for years. They’ve all been fine with the struggling actors living paycheck to paycheck for generations. NOW they care? Great. But like, where was that 10-20 years ago?
So they’re organising boycotts and funding more union movements too right?
[Anakin Skywalker face]
In all seriousness, basically the strike stops actors from promoting their work as well as just not working. So They can’t be in press junkets, they can’t even go to San Diego Comic Con next week, and they can’t promote whatever thing they’re in on their social media account.
pretty sure they are still working their hospitality job 😟
I know that a lot of the cafes and restaurants around LA are struggling to keep up because they don’t have like writers there and people doing meetings and such.
Bye Bye Phillip Lowe. Dont let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. To be clear, I dont blame him for the economic problems, I blame him for being not particularly bright around messaging and not even slightly PR savvy.
Looks like we got Michele Bullock. Is that much of an improvement or going to make a difference?
If we got the other Bullock maybe we’d have a situation where they can’t let inflation go above 5% or the country would explode.
