Even more, the word “galaxy” is derived from the Greek root meaning “milk”. So every galaxy is milky

TIL!
galaxy (n.) late 14c., from French galaxie or directly from Late Latin galaxias “the Milky Way” as a feature in the night sky (in classical Latin via lactea or circulus lacteus), from Greek galaxias (adj.), in galaxias kyklos, literally “milky circle,” from gala (genitive galaktos) “milk” (from PIE root *g(a)lag- “milk”).

What if the dude who named it was dictating and the person writing it down misunderstood and the galaxy is actually supposed to be called the “Milky Whey?” 🤔
- Deceptichum ( @Deceptichum@kbin.social ) 4•9 months ago
Maybe it was an act of resistance against dictators?

Down with this milquetoast toleration of the intolerant!
- CubitOom ( @CubitOom@infosec.pub ) English7•9 months ago
Have you met lactose intolerant people? They love milk the most.
- don ( @don@lemm.ee ) 6•9 months ago
Haven’t they ever tried just being tolerant of lactose? I mean, anxiety and depression are all in the head and so therefore can instantly be thought away, so I figure lactose intolerance is really just a choice. Pretty fuckin simple, if ya ask me.
