Black Mirror was good when it was British. The American version is crap.

I wouldn’t say the American version is crap, but it pales in comparison to the early seasons.
Everything up to Bandersnatch was fun to watch, even if some were better than others.
I think Striking Vipers was the only one I watched from Season 5, not because I hated it but because it didn’t catch me like prior seasons. Maybe I have just seen enough that the novelty has worn off.

I think part of the change in writing quality is that reality has caught up. it’s hard to be thought provoking and forward thinking about the dangers of our own advancement when we are now living it daily, at an accelerating rate.
I think they could either play into that hyper-accelerating advancement thing (which is an existential threat on its own, look at how fast AI is advancing, we’re decades ahead of where we thought we would be, and getting faster still), or do more of the alt-history style episodes they’ve done a few of, more original stories than the old on-the-nose tech warnings. Basically be a live action love death and robots.

The sudden drop in quality was extremely noticeable. I didn’t realize different people were making it - that makes so much sense.

The first Netlfix season (season 3 I think?) was still good. But aside from that, I agree.

I’m both intrigued and worried about a USS Callister sequel. Sometimes (many times) it’s hard to recapture the magic.

Star Trek Prodigy has entered the chat…
How many iterations of TOS have we seen?
- Rhaedas ( @Rhaedas@fedia.io ) 5•8 months ago
Didn’t they also leave the chat?
Revisiting a universe isn’t a bad thing, it just has to be done well. I so wanted a Sulu/Excelsior series or movie after ST V, and all the fan made stuff shows people love the ST sandbox to make up new adventures. I think Andor showed that getting away from the main cast can work.
I’ll go way out and say I’d love to see an epic series built upon the Star Fleet Battles universe history and lore. Intergalactic war with the Andromedans and the unique ships and weapons never seen yet on any show.

I picked ‘Prodigy’ because it was the silliest version I could think of. Haven’t watched Lower Decks, so I can’t comment.
My dream Trek series would be to go back to the beginning and scrap ALL the mythology. No Klingons or Vulcans. All the aliens look truly alien. No halfbreeds like Belana or Spock. It’s the year 2315 AD and there’s a starship with a crew of 500 exploring the Galaxy. Fresh start.

Lower Decks is fantastic. Mariner is amazing.
Also I’m pretty sure it’s covered more about the orions than any other source.

We’re already living in a Black Mirror. Charlie Brooker ended the series for exactly that reason. I dont need warnings about a dystopia that is already here.

Yes! My favorite TV show that leaves me feeling terrible!

Netflix has confirmed that Charlie Brooker’s sci-fi anthology will return in 2025 and that the new season will be six episodes long.
But the company does say that, while it’ll otherwise consist of new stories, one of the episodes will be a sequel to “USS Callister” from season 4, which starred Jesse Plemons.
“Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning,” the description reads.
The show’s return will mark a relatively brief hiatus, at least by Black Mirror standards.
Season 6 premiered last year and included some strong episodes, covering everything from space-themed horror to a paparazzi thriller to a satire of the future of streaming that proved all too prescient.
So while we don’t know yet what exactly the new episodes will cover, it’s a safe bet more recent tech stories like AI and the metaverse might provide some inspiration.
