So I have a uconsole r01 it’s basically a weak riscv machine
I want to see of there are alternatives to the stock os which is kinda bad
Any recommendations? Or is clockworkpios the only option?
Diplomjodler ( @Diplomjodler@feddit.de ) 9•11 months agoMaybe put in the title that it’s for RISC-V? Otherwise people will just say use Mint.
Good point. Thank you for telling me lol
SheeEttin ( @SheeEttin@programming.dev ) English4•11 months agoDebian and Fedora have ports, though not all packages are available, and you’ll probably be doing a lot of porting if you want anything else.
But this bit from the uConsole R-01 product page might be relevant to you:
uConsole R-01 is a highly experimental model and requires some experience with Linux systems & FOSS. We strongly recommend all beginners choose other models.
Yea, I know it’s not exactly a beginner device, just recieved it as a gift and want to see how I can use it
Pantherina ( @Pantherina@feddit.de ) 1•11 months agoDid some digging in Fedora projects and many seem unofficial or randomly scattered around.
Ashley ( @ashley@lemmy.ca ) 4•11 months agoThere’s a Debian risc-v port
Eugenia ( @eugenia@lemmy.ml ) English1•11 months agoYour best bet is Debian, or raspbian. The OSes for it are listed on the website.
Quick question but does the image have a GUI? My main issue with my current os is the kinda lacking gui
Eugenia ( @eugenia@lemmy.ml ) English1•11 months agoYour model has no GPU, so it’s possible that no graphical environment is supported. I suggest you sell it and get a Raspberry Pi if what you’re after is a more desktop experience.
So I should just get an adapter board and a cm4?
Where do I get those
Eugenia ( @eugenia@lemmy.ml ) English1•11 months agoYou need another computer, not the r01 to do what you want.
Oh, no way to use a cm4 in it? Can still use text adventures on it at least :D
