onion ( @onion@feddit.de ) 21•14 days agoThat’s a car not a tram
Hawk ( @Hawk@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English5•14 days agoIt runs on rails, which is called a tram or streetcar
mondoman712 ( @mondoman712@lemmy.ml ) 9•14 days agoI don’t see any rails in the image?
Hawk ( @Hawk@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) English6•14 days agoTop left, the rest are magnetic rails under the red line
mondoman712 ( @mondoman712@lemmy.ml ) 4•14 days agomagnetic rails
If it’s not steel on steel it’s not a tram.
hsdkfr734r ( @hsdkfr734r@feddit.nl ) 3•14 days agoSo, the tram has tyres? Like a bus?
Or is it maglev, which would be nice? lud ( @lud@lemm.ee ) 6•14 days agoIt probably just uses the magnetic “rail” to guide it on the road.
onion ( @onion@feddit.de ) 2•14 days agoSoI I’m guessing it could be replaced by a 5$ GPS reciever
Swedneck ( @Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de ) 1•10 days agoor like, the same fucking wires used for robot mowers
Nightwatch Admin ( @nightwatch_admin@feddit.nl ) 2•14 days agoI think it runs on a rail - my guess is the red line hides a track that the machine follows.
alcoholicorn ( @alcoholicorn@lemmy.ml ) 4•14 days agoThe red line is pavement. But it looks like there’s a bit of very narrow gauge track that the car actually runs on to the left
Nightwatch Admin ( @nightwatch_admin@feddit.nl ) 2•13 days agoThis is a self driving tram provided by the Korean Railroad Research Institute to this research project. As so often, these “autonomous” vehicles merely follow a special trail that is embedded in the tarmac, often with an indicator colour on top. The rail-ish thing you mentioned is just too far away from the vehicle, and there’s only one.
So only one question remains: is it a car? Maybe.
ID411 ( @ID411@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 4•14 days agoIt looks…….vulnerable
_MusicJunkie ( @_MusicJunkie@beehaw.org ) 3•13 days agoNow imagine if we took this, made it longer and flexible to fit more people, put it on steel rails for less rolling resistance. I wonder how that would work out.
