I was assuming this was a retirement announcement from the editor.

Sadly, not the case. The site has ceased publication as of this story, though content and the forum will remain up for an indeterminate amount of time.

It launched in 1997, the same year I wrote my first HTML, having started college and suddenly having access to hosting.

It sucks to see a pub that has adhered to its goals for the most part (we all make mistakes) for 27 years get shut down by a corporate owner.

  • Man, AnandTech came from the earlier type of Internet, where independent media outlets were fully in control of their own presence on the web. (E.g. they were not a YouTube channel.) Even though they weren’t still independent for a while now (purchased by a publishing company in 2014), I’m sad to see one of the originals go.

  • I quite enjoyed reading their in-depth tech coverage. Especially, in the early days when theyvcovered smartphones. There won’t be a 2nd anandtech in history for a long time to come.

They should release their articles as a torrent to conserve the long history of anandtech.
