Darn. Lemmy.world can’t catch a break.
- EliasChao ( @EliasChao@lemmy.one ) 22•1 year ago
That’s what you get from being the most popular instance I guess.
- OtakuAltair ( @OtakuAltair@lemm.ee ) 18•1 year ago
And that’s why people should spread out, as is the entire point of decentralization
- Wander ( @Wander@yiffit.net ) 51•1 year ago
Who would be so pissed at lemmy.world to DDoS them?
They might want to consider using Cloudflare or a similar solution if they don’t already.
- roon ( @roon@lemmy.ml ) 38•1 year ago
Spez maybe?
- Kichae ( @Kichae@kbin.social ) 59•1 year ago
Brands don’t have to do shit like this. They have weird trolls with weirder parasocial relationships to intellectual property to do it for them, unprompted.
- HonkyTonkWoman ( @HonkTonkWoman@lemm.ee ) 4•1 year ago
It’s the rise spezkin. Super Reddit Hyper Loyalists so invested in their upcoming karma farming fortunes that any threat to Reddit gets met with scorched earth tactics.
…I’m only kidding, I hope this doesn’t become a thing.
- remkit ( @remkit@lemmy.kya.moe ) 14•1 year ago
he’s an astroturfer though, is he really low enough to stoop to ddos? thankfully the fediverse is diverse and resilient to attacks to any one instance lol
- genoxidedev1 ( @genoxidedev1@kbin.social ) 9•1 year ago
He’d be. But his fanbois already do that for him so he doesn’t have to do it himself and worry about consequences.
- Lemmylaugh ( @Lemmylaugh@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) 3•1 year ago
You mean his employees?
- genoxidedev1 ( @genoxidedev1@kbin.social ) 3•1 year ago
No, I mean his fanbois. His employees would get paid to do that stuff and then there would also again be a way for him to bear the consequences. His fanbois don’t get paid and he doesn’t bear the risk.
- neal ( @neal@lemmy.ml ) 2•1 year ago
Yes something like Cloudflare would be very good. Even I have it on my tiny test instance.
- 𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙚 ( @erre@programming.dev ) 2•1 year ago
It doesn’t break federation? I recall it broke federation for kbin, thought it’d be the same for Lemmy sue to the underlying tech being the same.
- degrix ( @degrix@lemmy.hqueue.dev ) 1•1 year ago
It definitely works with Lemmy, but that could certainly explain an issue I’ve been having with kbin!
- remkit ( @remkit@lemmy.kya.moe ) 1•1 year ago

Or ThreatX, I believe they are more inexpensive than CF
- HSL ( @hsl@wayfarershaven.eu ) 34•1 year ago
Thanks for the update, but this breaks rule #1 - it’s not a question and the community is Ask Lemmy. We can leave this up for a few hours so that there’s a central place to chat.
- profilelost ( @profilelost@discuss.tchncs.de ) 9•1 year ago
No need, there’s enough other better suited places where news like this can be discussed.
- HSL ( @hsl@wayfarershaven.eu ) 7•1 year ago
Suggestions? Then we have a concrete place to point people towards.
- floofloof ( @floofloof@lemmy.ca ) 11•1 year ago
!fediverse@lemmy.ml perhaps? There’s already a post there.
No problem, your call. I knew this is mostly outside of the community rules but assumed that a bunch of “what’s going on with lemmy.world?” questions will pop up quickly so might as well cross post it here. Feel free to remove when this blows over.
- aussiematt ( @aussiematt@lemm.ee ) 3•1 year ago
Then change the title of the post to something open-ended like “How vulnerable is Lemmy to DDOS attacks?”. Taking out a major node which hosts many key communities is going to have an adverse impact.
- HSL ( @hsl@wayfarershaven.eu ) 23•1 year ago
This isn’t an open ended question and as such doesn’t belong on this community. You’re welcome to continue the discussion over at !fediverse@lemmy.ml
I’ll lock the thread but not remove it so that you can see what has been said so far.

This is warning showing why spreading out is important. No one instance being offline should be able to affect so many Motorheads at once.
- Antematter ( @Antematter@lemmy.studio ) 3•1 year ago
Havent heard motorheads before. Thats funny.
- Evoke3626 ( @Evoke3626@lemmy.fmhy.ml ) 1•1 year ago
I don’t get it. How that does have to do with lemmy
- Nix ( @nix@merv.news ) 4•1 year ago
Lemmy is the name of the lead singer of a band called Motorhead
- drinkleadsoup ( @drinkleadsoup@kbin.social ) 1•1 year ago
The ace of spades!
- NotAPenguin ( @NotAPenguin@kbin.social ) 9•1 year ago
Why did you post this to asklemmy?
- TheSaneWriter ( @TheSaneWriter@lemm.ee ) 3•1 year ago
Damn, hackers are being really uncool towards lemmy.world. Hopefully some good can come from this and they can implement robust security systems that help protect Lemmy instances from these types of attacks.
- freebrick ( @freebrick@kbin.social ) 2•1 year ago
This is why we can’t have nice things!
- sadreality ( @sadreality@kbin.social ) 1•1 year ago
People doing this are not part of the “we” here
Malicious actors and OG shit posters, we are not the same.
- InfiniteGlitch ( @ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 2•1 year ago
Someone or a group must have some hate towards Lemmy.World. Jeez.
- genoxidedev1 ( @genoxidedev1@kbin.social ) 1•1 year ago
I hate how these types of sad people with excuses for a life actually exist.
I express no sympathy at all towards them because these are the people because of whom we can’t have nice things, they are undeserving of sympathy.
If they wanted my sympathy for their sociopathy they should go to therapy instead of wasting their time destroying everything that brings even the slightest amount of joy to others just because they can’t feel joy themselves and can’t handle other people and communities thriving.Fuck LMAO and his ilk.
- cyberpiggy ( @cyberpiggy@lemmy.ml ) 1•1 year ago
Is this due to meta threads thing?
