We really need to rethink the internet as it is today. A 1GW nuclear power plant produces as much electricity as 2.39million people need in terms of global average or 700k US Americans. So when multiple big tech companies talk about multiple nuclear power plants to run even more servers to what is already a widely used service, then we have a massive problem. So we need to talk about AI, streaming, tracking of users and really how many features most users really need for their services. This is just insane.

Yeah, I’m a big supporter of expanding the nuclear footprint as more green options (and power storage solutions) are further developed (and in addition to rollout of those options), but this is outrageous.
This isn’t even to power critical communications infrastructure that needs to be disaster resistant, like any of the internet backbone locations.
I think we need to think about how we as a society support these megalithic companies. I’m not against them providing services, but not while they dodge tax and they should be forced to match whatever they generate for themselves with contributions to the grid to help keep the cost down for normal people.
I would hope they stuck to clean energy though.
