Is it possible to have a “style guide” for posting YouTube links? Usually there is just the title of the video and the generic YouTube blurb, and most of the time the title only vaguely tells you what the video is about. It would nice if in the description we could have folks post the length, the name of the creator, and a brief description of the video. If the creator has one, great, use that. If not, just a quick 1 or 2 sentence synopsis. I think this would help engagement for those posts a lot and just create better quality posts for video content. I know I don’t watch or comment on any video post that just has a title.

I’d like to see the posts try to engage more in a discussion than just promote the video. To people posting Youtube videos, what exactly are you hoping to see discussed from it? Posting highlighted snippets works here of course since it sets a topic for discussion, similar to article posts.

I am admittedly part of this problem. I have posted YouTube videos with little context (see here)
The comment there is kind of what I was hoping to see discussed. I thought it was an interesting perspective on public hearings. It was a short 15 min video that didn’t seem like a huge commitment.
That being said, I agree with the post here. I didn’t give any details beyond the title. No length, no summary. Not a great post in retrospect. And I get the same kind of annoyed feeling when people post just YouTube videos with little context on gaming. So I’ll definitely make sure I don’t do a similar thing in the future.
As a mod for gaming I am definitely willing to encourage some sort of best practices when posting videos. Though I am not sure I want to go all the way to removing posts for not doing it. But I’ve been monitoring this and mod talks to see if we want to do something more official. So stay tuned I suppose. In the meantime I’ll be encouraging YouTube posts on gaming to add more details to a post
And I don’t think a requirement or you take it down is what is needed. Maybe if it is not there, just a nudge from a mod to give a little more info
Yeah, and that is kinda my point too. Like, I want to engage, but unless I know the source I am not inclined. There are too many shitasses on YouTube for me to click and discuss anything on title alone.

and a brief description of the video
[Playful teasing] That requires them to have actually watched it first 😜
lol, you’re right, though I expect that happens less often on Beehaw

This is a great idea, I’ve also posted video links before and noticed that they don’t get a lot of traction. I also felt like I didn’t know what to do with the title - it was clear to me that I should do more than just the video title, but what else should I do?
We’ve got some good ideas here already. My proposals are that the title should include the length and the channel in brackets, and there should be a tldw in the description or comments.
Oh, the channel and length in brackets is a great idea
