penquin ( @penquin@lemm.ee ) 4•3 months agoHow do you install the latest proton on the deck? Is it done like on the desktop with protonup or terminal?
Midnitte ( @Midnitte@beehaw.org ) English3•3 months agoYep, just use Protonup
penquin ( @penquin@lemm.ee ) 2•3 months agoThank you
prole ( @prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 2•3 months agoYou can also add it as a “non-steam game” and run it without having to switch to desktop mode.
penquin ( @penquin@lemm.ee ) 1•3 months agoThank you. Wine caller on decky loader is doing the job :)
prole ( @prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 1•3 months agoI don’t use decky loader so dunno what Wine caller is, but assuming it runs protonupqt through wine, that’s def unnecessary (I guess it could work?). The app is linux native, so you don’t need a translation layer like wine.
penquin ( @penquin@lemm.ee ) 1•3 months agoWine caller is a plugin on decky loader. There are no translation layers involved at all. It works in game mode without having to switch to desktop mode, that’s why I went with it. I’m familiar with protonup, I’ve been running Linux as my main machine for 7 years now, I’m just new the steam deck.
any1th3r3 ( @any1th3r3@lemmy.ca ) 2•3 months agoIf you have Decky Loader set-up on your Deck, I might also recommend using the Wine Cellar plugin.
penquin ( @penquin@lemm.ee ) 3•3 months agoThank you. I do have decky loader installed, but didn’t know about wine caller. Man, looks like there is a huge community behind the deck. I’m new to it. Just got mine like a week ago.
Hexarei ( @Hexarei@beehaw.org ) 2•3 months agoI think it’s just a part of the system updates
vividspecter ( @vividspecter@lemm.ee ) 2•3 months agoThat’s true for normal Proton but GE is a third party version.
Hexarei ( @Hexarei@beehaw.org ) 2•3 months agoOh I was reading too fast and missed that
