House Democratic lawmakers reportedly used a closed-door meeting earlier this week to vent their frustrations with progressive advocacy groups that have been driving constituent calls and pressuring the party to act like a genuine opposition force in the face of the Trump administration’s authoritarian assault on federal agencies and key programs.
WatDabney ( @WatDabney@sopuli.xyz ) 15•2 months agoI sort of barely feel sorry for them. Not really, since my freedom and quite possibly my life is on the line - if something isn’t done about Muskntrump’s coup d’etat relatively soon, the US is on the path to gulags and mass graves. But still… they haven’t been any sort of meaningful opposition party in at least 30 years now, so it’s sort of like demanding that a fat, lazy mall cop chase down a teenage shoplifter - it is technically their job, but they couldn’t hardly be more ridiculously ill-suited for actually carrying it out.
GrundlButter ( @GrundlButter@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 8•2 months agoBeing a representative would be great if it weren’t for all these damn constituents and their desire to survive.
Sergio ( @Sergio@slrpnk.net ) English2•2 months agoIf you ever vote Democrat you’re expected to vote for them in perpituity.
GrundlButter ( @GrundlButter@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 3•2 months agoUnfortunately, yeah, they sure seem to expect that. And it ain’t working out for them.
We need to encourage any political representative that wants an easy job to step aside. When it comes to your constituents, lead, follow, or get out of the way. Sitting on ass and accepting a paycheck is amoral.
