I realize this is a really silly request, but I absolutely refuse to watch YouTube videos without a proxy frontend let alone logging into a google account.
I’ve been wanting to watch dnsl’s “Fallout RP is serious business” but it’s age restricted.
Does anybody know either of a way to bypass the age restriction or can just send me the video? I’ve tried everything I know short of giving in and signing into YouTube.
Xanza ( @Xanza@lemm.ee ) English36•1 month agoYou can’t bypass age verification on YouTube.
yt-dlp still works for age verification content, but you have to pass cookies to it.
But here’s the video: https://qu.ax/KsDqd.mp4
land ( @land@lemmy.ml ) English12•1 month agoI use GrayJay as my front-end, and it’s got some cool features like age restrictions, SponorBlock, and the return of the Dislike button. Plus, you can even log into your YouTube account.
notfromhere ( @notfromhere@lemmy.ml ) English18•1 month agoI think the question is, can it do all those other things without having to log into your YouTube accoubt?
SeekPie ( @SeekPie@lemm.ee ) English5•1 month agoYes.
The logging in is for getting your subscriptions transferred. Though you could also do the export method on there too.
land ( @land@lemmy.ml ) English3•1 month agoI use a CSV file that I exported from my Google account a few years back. You can also sync between the phone and desktop app, subscriptions, watch list and playlists.
oldfart ( @oldfart@lemm.ee ) English11•1 month agoI bought a google account for less than $1, used it to log in to pipepipe and nothing else. Then I only use pipepipe when all else fails.
I haven’t found any other way, even an unreliable one.
I also found myself not wanting to click youtube links because there’s a good chance I’ll spend the next 5 minutes switching apps and vpns and whatnot to make it work.
land ( @land@lemmy.ml ) English5•1 month agoEven better way (which I did) using an email alias, create a dummy account with random details.
infinitesunrise ( @infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net ) English10•1 month agoI don’t think any of the proxies or frontends have a good way around it yet, and google is clearly using it as a way to fuck with said frontends. Best practice suggestion: Every time you get cockblocked by something like this, you must send at least one friendly DM or message to the content creator suggesting they at least put a second copy of their content on a decentralized platform.
Maiq ( @Maiq@lemy.lol ) English8•1 month agoyt-dlp might do the trick.
Maiq ( @Maiq@lemy.lol ) English8•1 month agoDammit, i replied to myself. Stupid self!
DrinkMonkey ( @DrinkMonkey@lemmy.ca ) English1•1 month agoBut did you solve your own problem?
First thing I tried but I think you need to provide it with your YouTube login cookie to download age restricted content.
Maiq ( @Maiq@lemy.lol ) English3•1 month agoThat sucks, i thought i had used it before to get some music videos.
I think newPipe has an age restriction toggle in its settings, its available on android, not sure about ios, pretty sure not available on desktops.
Its been a while since ive needed to do this.
Blastboom Strice ( @BlastboomStrice@mander.xyz ) English4•1 month agoNewpipe fails too:/ (as well as the greasemoneky script I use on my browser)
Mr. WorldWide ( @ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org ) English1•1 month agoWhy does youtube suck so much? only a few years ago it was so much easier to access from anything. And now it’s way more restricted
Blastboom Strice ( @BlastboomStrice@mander.xyz ) English1•1 month agoI think You know the
answer
and so do I.
Yeah consider this being rickrolled:)
But yeah, it’s probably capitalism and whatever adjacent to it
Mr. WorldWide ( @ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org ) English8•1 month agoI really hope the people who made or at least the ones who maintain grayjay, invidious and piped get to work on bypassing age restriction.
I really want to the internet to go back to the way it was 15 years ago, where nothing was so insanely restricted or controlled.
I hate that all the rich elites of the world are using Orwellian novels as instruction manuals
Mubelotix ( @Mubelotix@jlai.lu ) English6•1 month agoI think grayjay does it
Kiuyn ( @Kiuyn@lemmy.ml ) English3•1 month agoLast time I checked, it do require login with Google account. It is long time ago tho, so idk if it is still the case.
Mr. WorldWide ( @ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org ) English1•1 month agonot anymore, fiddled with it, it worked without being signed in once, now it doesn’t work
cmgvd3lw ( @cmgvd3lw@discuss.tchncs.de ) English3•1 month agoinv.nadeko.net try this. But sometimes it is down. My method is freetube over VPN for normal videos and for some geo restricted or unplayable videos I use invidious.
Amanduh ( @Amanduh@lemm.ee ) English2•1 month agoI love daniel.
Settle down, partner.
