jol ( @jol@discuss.tchncs.de ) 24•19 days agoCurry ketptchup is a gift sent from the gods.
fjordo ( @fjordo@feddit.uk ) 4•19 days agoCurry ketchup blew my mind the first time I tried it. Need to figure out where I can buy it from in the UK.
jol ( @jol@discuss.tchncs.de ) 6•19 days agoYou can make it with curry powder, it’s not so hard
adamhepner ( @adamhepner@szmer.info ) Polski1•18 days agoHow can you eat that stuff? It’s supposed to be ketchup, not curry. And currywurst is also an abomination. Nürnbergers or polish white sausages!
Edit: typo
jol ( @jol@discuss.tchncs.de ) 1•18 days agoYou don’t like something, we get it. Can I enjoy something delicious in peace?
kingshrubb ( @kingshrubb@lemmy.ml ) 1•17 days agoWait until they hear about mayochup
jol ( @jol@discuss.tchncs.de ) 1•17 days agoBasically cocktail sauce?
adamhepner ( @adamhepner@szmer.info ) Polski1•18 days agoFeel free, I don’t hold you accountable to my opinion! I’m 100% sure that there are things in my cuisine that you’d find absolutely disgusting. Different people, different tastes.
But seriously: what is it good on?
jol ( @jol@discuss.tchncs.de ) 1•18 days agoIt’s a good. 1:1 replacement for ketchup in all cases you’d use ketchup, IMO
e8d79 ( @e8d79@discuss.tchncs.de ) 20•19 days agoYou guys buy branded ketchup? Its Aldis store brand or nothing for me.
morrowind ( @morrowind@lemmy.ml ) 5•19 days agoAren’t you contradicting yourself if you only buy aldis store brand?
e8d79 ( @e8d79@discuss.tchncs.de ) 4•18 days agoNo.
boonhet ( @boonhet@lemm.ee ) 3•19 days agoIt’s a bit of a long drive to Aldis for some of us, I don’t know which country the closest one is in. Most people probably just buy what they grew up on. For me that’s Felix so I guess you could say it’s European, but Orkla is publicly traded so it sorta loses all meaning.
localhost443 ( @localhost443@discuss.tchncs.de ) 3•18 days agoI only buy fancy shit now and just eat less of it, like stokes and a couple of local ones.
All that own brand stuff is just tomato juice concentrate with a load of thickening agents plus sugar and crap to make it taste like something. And Heinz was always overly sweet crap anyway.
stebo ( @stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 2•19 days agoketchup? never heard of her
Yeather ( @yeather@lemmy.ca ) 2•19 days agoHeinz > Store brand > Hunts, i buy generic mustard and everything else unless there’s a good sale.
snuggledick ( @snuggledick@lemm.ee ) 1•12 days agoI buy Hela ketchup at Aldi, so I guess it’s their store brand? Definitely cheap.
Lojcs ( @Lojcs@lemm.ee ) 16•19 days agoTil heinz is american
tiramichu ( @tiramichu@lemm.ee ) 20•19 days agoThe Heinz who started the company was the son of German immigrant parents, hence the surname.
Patch ( @Patch@feddit.uk ) English6•18 days agoBrand ownership can get super weird.
Heinz is an American company. Daddies, which is a very British brand, is now owned by Heinz too, so is also American.
On the other hand Helmann’s (of both mayo and ketchup providence) is an American brand which is now owned by Unilever…so technically British.
Kit ( @Kit@lemmy.blahaj.zone ) 3•17 days agoFun fact time! Heinz originated in Pittsburgh and used to have a massive factory built in the 1910’s, and when it shut down they eventually renovated it into apartments. The buildings are now all named after what they once produced there - Bean Building, Meat Building, Cereal Building, Reservoir Building, and Shipping Building.
It’s rumored that the Meat Building has a vibrant gay community.
Lojcs ( @Lojcs@lemm.ee ) 2•17 days agoReal life lore
stebo ( @stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com ) 2•19 days agolol it sounds so not American
do Americans even know how to pronounce it properly?
rumschlumpel ( @rumschlumpel@feddit.org ) 13•19 days ago*Hela
Gewürzketchup is pretty different, though. It’s not like there aren’t hundreds of brands that make regular ketchup.
Thanks, fixed!
tiramichu ( @tiramichu@lemm.ee ) 10•19 days agoThe only thing my fries need is kewpie mayo 😋
e8d79 ( @e8d79@discuss.tchncs.de ) 1•19 days agoYou can make mayonnaise yourself within a few minutes. Its just eggyolk and oil. Tastes way better than anything store bought.
InFerNo ( @InFerNo@lemmy.ml ) 6•19 days agoI’m a fan of Zeisner ketchup, but usually buy store brand (Boni) because my kids seem to drink it instead of dosing.
bricklove ( @bricklove@midwest.social ) English5•19 days agoY’all should be using Hela regardless of my county’s dumb policies. Heinz is trash in comparison.
magikmw ( @magikmw@lemm.ee ) 5•19 days agoPudliszki or death.
gon [he] ( @gon@lemm.ee ) English5•19 days agoAlso love Paladin from Portugal. They make a bunch of different condiments and sauces.
Phoenixz ( @phoenixz@lemmy.ca ) 5•17 days agoAnd so much better too
Their Curry ketchup is awesome
SkaveRat ( @SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de ) 2•17 days agoI once went to a fancy steak house and ordered potato wedges on the side
They brought us a sauciere of their “new sauce they are working on” to try out
And I swear it was literally just slightly thinned hela curry ketchup
It tasted exactly the same. Still great on wedges, tho
arschflugkoerper ( @arschflugkoerper@feddit.org ) 5•19 days agoI don’t always want Gewürz in my Ketchup tho.
But there are enough alternatives to be fair.
rbn ( @rbn@sopuli.xyz ) 10•19 days ago samus12345 ( @samus12345@lemm.ee ) English2•19 days agoDoes it taste similar to American ketchup, or is it sweeter like the German ketchup I remember as a kid?
SpaceCowboy ( @SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca ) 3•18 days agoSpeaking as a veteran of the Canadian Ketchup Wars, victory is achievable!
Canada brought Heinz to it’s knees in our ketchup war nearly a decade ago, you can do it too.
M0oP0o ( @M0oP0o@mander.xyz ) 3•18 days agoSadly even french’s is now owned by the americans.
SpaceCowboy ( @SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca ) 1•17 days agoYeah but the goal of that Ketchup War wasn’t to boycott the US, just to ensure that ketchup was being produced in Canada. And it was successful as Heinz was forced to open a new plant in Canada.
Now I just get the store brand Ketchup (seems good enough to me, it’s likely made in the same plant as French’s) so I think the US is completely out from my Ketchup purchases. Though I’m not sure who owns that plant (it’s not French’s they just have a contract with that plant to make it for them) but the point is to reduce the amount of money going to the US as much as possible, and that’ll do it.
beeng ( @beeng@discuss.tchncs.de ) 3•18 days agoAussie “ketchup” (tomatey sauce) is more rich and less firetruck red sickly sweet.
Rosella for those interested! https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/61679 (on a meat pie)
B-TR3E ( @b_tr3e@feddit.org ) 3•18 days agoFlying Goose Red Hot Chili Sauce is the only thing you need. Ketchup is for the weak.
SheenSquelcher ( @SheenSquelcher@lemm.ee ) English0•18 days agoWant to try these, anyone seen them in UK shops?
SpaceCowboy ( @SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca ) 0•18 days agoYou’re the first British person I’ve met that wasn’t adamant that “brown sauce” was superior and no other condiment is ever needed.
purplemonkeymad ( @purplemonkeymad@programming.dev ) 1•17 days agoThat statement is correct, but without an inferior sauce to compare it to you can’t show other people. I’d rather not buy US for that.
SpaceCowboy ( @SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca ) 1•17 days agoYes! This is the attitude I’ve come to expect from British people about brown sauce :P
