The European Commission isn’t strictly ruling it out either.

wise_pancake ( @wise_pancake@lemmy.ca ) 33•18 days agoI said this the first time Trump was elected
It’s too dangerous to be in the wild while the US is focused on imperialism.
The EU is more similar to Canadian attitudes than the US is, though we are halfway in between.
jibjib14 ( @jibjib14@lemmy.ca ) English24•18 days agoAs a Canadian I am all for this.
rabber ( @rabber@lemmy.ca ) English18•18 days agoI think there are unnecessary complications with joining the EU and maybe we should just focus on joining the shengen zone more similar to iceland and norway to make it happen quicker
Edit: I’m stoned right now but I’m just trying to imagine how we would retrofit every single car with EU regulated headlights for example haha. And those ugly ass long rectangle license plates. Canada has the coolest license plates in the world
prodigalsorcerer ( @prodigalsorcerer@lemmy.ca ) 6•17 days agoPer your edit: Does joining the EU require retroactive compliance? Or is it just “follow these standards going forward”?
rabber ( @rabber@lemmy.ca ) English2•16 days agoGood question I don’t know the answer to.
Warehouse ( @Warehouse@lemmy.ca ) English2•16 days agoFrom The website, it seems as though we have change our regulations, then we can apply to join the EU (and also be a European nation, but that’s a different thing).
JuxtaposedJaguar ( @JuxtaposedJaguar@lemmy.ml ) 12•17 days agoI neither want to become part of the USA nor part of the EU, although between the two, the EU is obviously preferable.
Pyr_Pressure ( @Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca ) 10•17 days agoAt least you are still a country when in the EU and can leave if you want to.
weew ( @weew@lemmy.ca ) 1•15 days agoCanexit when?
Shortstack ( @Shortstack@reddthat.com ) 8•18 days agoOh god please join the EU, so I can go through the trouble of claiming ancestral citizenship in Europe and be able to live in Canada instead.
LovesTha🥧 ( @LovesTha@floss.social ) 6•18 days ago@RandAlThor Australia first, we are already in the ESC ;)
weew ( @weew@lemmy.ca ) 2•15 days agoLol all former British colonies join the EU after Brexit
Reannlegge ( @Reannlegge@lemmy.ca ) English6•18 days agoI like the idea I do but I think the CANZUK is more likely the four countries share so much more than we do with the EU. Only problem I have with it is we would still have the royal family on our coins.
alkbch ( @alkbch@lemmy.ml ) English2•16 days agoThat’s not happening. The #1 requirement to join the EU is … to be in Europe.
ProgrammingSocks ( @ProgrammingSocks@pawb.social ) 1•16 days agoThere is no law of nature that demands this. These rules were written by people. They can be changed and bent by people as well.
You’re gonna be seeing a lot of changes very soon. Don’t go thinking the neoliberal status quo is some default state of the world. The US is fascist now.
alkbch ( @alkbch@lemmy.ml ) English2•16 days agoYou want to bet on Canada joining the EU before Trump’s term ends?
