USB 2.0 was the game-changer we needed to revolutionize data transfer between devices.

    Don’t be a conformist!

    Make your own decisions!

    Keep Centronics Parallel alive!

If you aren’t using at least 3 different types of DVI connectors your nerd card is revoked!

Esata was so cool for like 3 years. I needed more storage fast on my laptop and having only USB 2.0 that was a no go. But esta gave me one cable to an external SSD that did power and fast data.

Then USB 3.0 came out, then UASP, and that completely killed esata.

I still prefer eSATA over USB when using SATA drives. A lot of the USB to SATA chips don’t support reading the SMART data from the drive. Now we have NVMe SSDs connected over thunderbolt, which is much faster than SATA or USB3 and SMART works correctly.

God, fuck those dual DVI-D ports. We had a bunch of computers at my first real job that used that crap and the breakout cables were such complete and utter shit. Dell, you had room for two DVI-D ports on your shit ass midtowers!

EDIT: also fuck DVI-A. I’ve had one miserable encounter with that port and I’m glad it’s dead. Either keep shit VGA, use DVI-D, or use the far superior DisplayPort with a locking cable.

God I fucking love DisplayPort locking cables.

DVI as a collective can eat shit and rot in a pile of shit.

VGA was great, DP is nice but should be more adopted, HDMI is “meh” but usable, using DVI is like eating Trump’s hemorrhoids

HDMI is much worse than DVI. Because of their bullshit licensing, the newer versions can’t be used with open source drivers.

Yeah that’s why I put it behind DP.

However, I’ve never had a problem with HDMI, it has always just worked on every display every computer without problems.

I feel old. The only one of those I haven’t ever used is that AAUI port. What’s that for?

I’ve never ripped the head off of a DVI or VGA cable. Unlike HDMI and DP, then they put little grippy clips in em now so you got to get the needle nose pliers out and rip them out the port too.

Personally I just splice all my cables into MIL-DTL-26482 connectors, that way I know they’re solid!

And they’re big enough you can grip it with your whole hand!

News community around technology, social media platforms, information technology and governmental policy surrounding it.

What doesn’t fit here?

The core of the story has to be technology focused.

  • If article mentions “AI” in a sentence and then talks about business economics that doesn’t make it tech news.
  • Gaming is too many layers removed from technology. There are many dedicated communities that are a better fit for it.
  • Transporation is too many layers removed from technology. EVs while use many cool technologies have many dedicated communities that are a better fit for it.
  • Entertainment is too many layers removed from technology. While sometimes it can fit here, business or cultural aspects of it are a better fit for dedicated communities.
  • Cybersecurity. While it heavily focuses on technology, most of the time it’s too technical for most people who are not already invested in it. Should be posted in a dedicated communities unless it has broader connection to other tech areas.

Post guidelines

Title format

Post title should mirror the news source title. If you don’t like the title of article, look for an alternative source instead of editorializing it.

URL format

Post URL should be the original link to the article (even if paywalled) and archived copies left in the body. It allows avoiding duplicate posts when cross-posting.

[Opinion] prefix

Opinion (op-ed) articles must use [Opinion] prefix before the title. Opinion articles refer to articles that their publisher doesn’t explictly endorse.

Country prefix

Country prefix can be added to the title with a separator (|, :, etc.) if the news is from a local publisher who doesn’t clearly mention the country.
