Megaman is still hard as nails but save states for sure help with that.

Save states are amazing because I don’t have 8 hours per day to go back and keep retrying like I did as a kid.

The only reason I was able to beat Zelda as a kid was the map that came with the game and some Nintendo power guides. A lot of those games would get you lost or hide some pathway behind something stupid. Zelda I remember getting stuck in one of the later dungeons because I didn’t realize that when the monster blocking my path said “grumble grumble” he wanted my meat 🍖.

The Metroid map was hard to follow. I only beat that with the Justin Bailey code. It was easier to run around with the power ups. Castlevania was fucking impossible with the crystal orbs and kneeling for a tornado to warp you. MegaMan is pretty unforgiving in some spots, but you can memorize parts of the board, kinda like ninja gaiden.

I wish you good fortune in the wars to come. I went back to beat Mike Tyson’s Punch out as an adult, and the only reason I beat that was playing on an emulator and saving the game after each successful dodge/hit I got. That like banging my head into a wall.

As an adult, megaman has been slaying me for a decade now.

I’ve never played that either, but I love Metroidvanias so I assume it’s great.

I picked up the Mass Effect trilogy recently following a tip from here (I think).

I think if you like Metroidvanias, it stands to reason that you’d like Metroid and Castlevania!

I started playing the Legendary edition of the trilogy but never ended up finishing it. The first game for sure hasn’t aged very well IMO.

Finished RE:1 a while back, I’d like to play the rest! Or at least, most of them. Silksong has my major interest now though!

Which version of RE1 did you end up playing?

REMake! Enjoyed it quite a lot, gonna play 0 when I finish Silksong or sometime after. I know it gets flak, but I want to play it before the other remakes.

I’ll probably catch shit for this but REMake is probably the best version to play.

From what I’ve seen, most people tend to love it, even if the campy cutscenes of the original are treasured. Additions like the red skulls(?) and the gorgeous pre-rendered backgrounds make the game hold up well today!

Someday I’ll get to Ys and Romancing Saga, heard they apparently have “actually good JRPG gameplay”.

    Someday. Not today.
