Prisons are an inefficient way to rehabilitate murderers
They are an incredibly efficient way, however, in the USA, to:
- Have slave labour drive down wages for huge swaths of the economy.
- Create a disenfranchised class by fine-tuning what constitutes a felony in many states. (In 10 states a felony conviction means never voting again without a pardon. Other states have descending levels of disenfranchisement.)
- Put fear in the hearts of entire segments of the population as you apply your laws unevenly.
Remember the purpose of the system is not what they say it’s for, but rather what it actually does.
I don’t think they belong in slavery either… Or North Korea at forced labor camps.

I lived in New Jersey for 25 years. The older I get and the longer I’m away, the more I miss it. Then I remember the cold winters and the hot humid summers and I don’t miss it enough to move back.
I am trying to visit at least once a year. I actually do like New Jersey more now that I don’t live there anymore.

True! But I am always impressed with the South Jersey to Philly area public transportation. Taking the train into Philly and getting around on the subway is better than trying to do anything similar in Southern California.
To be far anything is better than CA :3
Oh I disagree, I love California. The weather is beautiful 95% of the time. There are so many places to hike or shop or go to the beach. And the book community in San Diego county is great too.
I just wish our public transportation was better. And it is expensive to live. But I still wouldn’t want to leave.
There’s no density in CA, in order to have proper public transportation you need some TOD (Transit Oriented Development)
