Encaustic is a process of painting with wax, which is as much sculpture as it is painting and collage.

I started by making my own encaustic medium, heating up beeswax to mix with damar resin and different pigments. I used my own pigments I extracted from natural sources using the lake method.

It was a lot of layering, heating, cooling and wiping from there. It was a fun process and a forgiving one, since I could just melt everything off if I fucked up.

The little rats are just drawings embedded in the wax.
