Welcome to the 25th writing club update! 😊
I hope you’ve all found some nice cozy spots in the shade, to do some creative thinking or writing. Or perhaps some of you have been taking a break, there’s nothing wrong with that either!
The usual info about how this writing club update works:
To anyone stumbling upon this post and wondering about the rules – there really aren’t any! This is a club for mostly the same regulars and semi-regulars, but visitors are encouraged to comment on writing updates or share their own. The main idea is to set a goal for yourself and try to achieve it by the next month’s update. :)
Feel free to comment and tell us how things are going for you, regarding writing, creative works, and everything related!

Now I’m imagining what Doom mapping would seem like to someone who isn’t familiar… maybe like divination but just of bad portents ^^ hehe
But to answer your question, Doom mapping in my context is making custom levels for the old video game Doom from the 90s. For some reason a super supportive community has formed around this activity, that I would liken to a more approachable version of game development and level design.
If you’ve ever played the Sims and got obsessed with designing a house from scratch, the feeling is very similar.
All my life >_< yes, exactly. You get it. Sometimes I feel like I just flit between activities. Lately I’ve been trying to stop feeling bad about it and view it all as part of one big creative practice. I wish I could force myself to focus on just one at a time, but that hasn’t worked for me in decades, lol, so now I just follow the butterfly of inspiration and just try to be thankful when it alights anywhere.
That’s cool as hell!! I didn’t know people did that and I’m now delighted with this information.
I’m exactly the same way. It’s hard, but y therapist pointed out to me, when I was bemoaning my inability to write, that I’ve never stopped being creative for even a minute, and all the projects and ideas I’m working on are filling and expanding my creative well <3 I love your analogy “the butterfly of inspiration” too - it feels very kind and intuitive c:
