Not for nothin, we love to see a territorially intact Ukraine.
I like it how the map essentially says “we cannot find anything proper to complain about Italy.”
“We stole half our flavor profiles from them and refuse to admit it, so we pretend like anything we stole is actually just common knowledge.”
it is not like tomatoes are native italy
The Italians embraced them much sooner and did a lot more with them. The French were too worried they were poisonous because they were nightshades and only slowly adopted them with the advent of tomato exports from Italy and Spain.
We improved them. One of Italy’s most famous dishes, carbonara pasta, has a French version that is way better.
Do you really just leave us hanging without telling us how to upgrade carbonara?
https://tangerinezest.com/en/creamy-bacon-pasta-with-onion-french-carbonara/
Basically, pasta with cream and bacon. It’s barely carbonara anymore, but it’s what we call it anyway.
the Korean version is even better.
I looked it up and it’s spicy carbonara. I should try this.
There are massive leaps to be made by combining French techniques with foreign ingredients, it just requires accepting that maybe other places also have good food, perhaps even better food in some cases.
Got to love the French calling Italian food overrated, when their international recognized dish consists of black coffee and a cigarette.
I dunno, man, a black coffee and a cigarette is pretty good.
It took me far too long to realise that, by “rotten cabbage”, they mean Sauerkraut.

French food is under spiced.
Like lots of useful techniques, don’t get me wrong, but, no. The culinary tradition is limited in regards to scope of ingredients and flavor profiles.
At least the Germans are humble enough to eagerly adopt new spices and seasonings.
Edit: croissants are from Austria

What? That goes against my ~10 years of living in Germany. They hate anything not traditional, and their traditional food is absolutely fucking disgusting.
Maybe you’re confused because of the many immigrant-held places? I’ve never had a good döner from a place managed by a white German, but good kebab places in Germany are infinitely better than fast food in France
The fact that kebab places are so prevalent in Germany shows the average German is quite open to foreign foods. Even “traditional” German foods get spins from foreign foods, like curry wurst. I’ve also seen quite a few inspired takes on flammekueche using foreign inspirations.
french cousine is either just bland or disgusting no where in between
The true overrated cuisine is the french one
UK not even being on the map xD
The French are just jealous of our portable usable bread, that isn’t 16 feet long, doesn’t go off 20 minutes after purchase, and can actually be used to make sandwiches.
Why they gotta do Ireland and Scotland dirty like that?
Come on, you really think you’re that much better than English food?
The most popular Scottish dish was invented by a Pakistani and everyone thinks it’s Indian.
Haggis?
Chicken tikka.
They got the whole half continent dirty. Except Belarus, they are proud of it.
They’d prefer to say it doesn’t exist
One day we’ll catch them on film enjoying a Greggs sausage roll and the charade will be over.
Danish pastry is not soggy. On the contrary, it’s a lot crispier than what the rest of Europe is eating.
Perhaps they’re thinking of the pastry called a danish, which is not Danish. We ourselves call it a Berliner, but I think it’s actually from Austria.
maybe it’s actually swedish but wienerbröd is kinda soggy, isn’t it?
The origins are unclear. The Danish bakers stole the recipe for soggy cakes from Vienna, hence the name, but then the Austrian bakers startede calling it a copenhagen plunder. Immigrants brought the cake to America by the name danish.
Technically the whole range of similar cakes are neither cakes, bread or pastry. They’re viennoiseries, which is layered dough, just like croissants.
Croissants, also from Vienna.
Wienerbrød, aka bread from Wien was inspired by Austrian bakers (classic “neutral” SCABS!) who came up to work in Denmark during a huge baker’s strike in the mid 1800s. But as is the Danish way, we managed to pump it full of dairy, in this case butter.
But yeah, it is possible that it’s referring to “remonce”, the filling/topping used.
Soggy pastry? I’m a Dane, and I have absolutely no clue, what that’s supposed to refer to?
I don’t know how it is in France, but if someone says “Danish pastry” where I’m from, they’re talking about wienerbrød.
heh…
Wiener bread.
Maybe it’s the cookies that come with every new sewing box.
checks out. i had rotten cabbage today.
While “rotten cabbage” seems to be a correct descriptor, I was somewhat aghast to not be included in the potato munchers. I mean… people are out there calling us potatoes… but then I looked it up and Germany is in the lower midfield of how much potatoes countries in the EU eat.
I’m tipping my hat to you Latvia. Respect. 112,7 kg per person per year. That is nearly double the 57,4 kg per person per year we eat in Germany.
Edit: HAH! That seemed to have been older data, take THAT Latvia! Instead I must now bow to our new starchy overlords, the Poles.

Fermented cabbage is not rotten, nor is pickled cabbage. Funny or no, fermented cabbage is fucking awesome. And potatoes.
Most fermented things are awesome.
Got newer data? Germany if it keeps up the 2023 rise could have overtaken Poland
Well… we did have a record harvest in 2025… but so did Poland.
Ha ha, that was pretty good. I feel like the Uk, scotland, and ireland, if not wales too, could be good puns even as the vast atlantic ocean is a good single pun.
English is not my first language, can you explain what the pun is on the ocean?
That english food is so bad that it’s not worth mentioning.
Oooohhh, I understand now. I didn’t notice that UK was missing on the map. Thank you
And that says a lot
Why is the place with the best food labeled “famine”
Was gonna say, maybe I’m just not aware of it, but France had famine in it much later than the Balkans . . . .https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_famines
