Make and eat a litre of ice-cream every week. I simmer down frozen fruits to a jammy consistency, put them through a sieve, and mix them into a custard before dumping it in the ice cream mixer or ripple them through the ice-cream as it goes into the pot.
They don’t all turn out perfect but I still get ice cream in more interesting flavours and for cheaper than the store. Tops out at about £6/L if you go for the fancy fruit, compared to £3-4/L for the cheapest supermarket own brand and about £10/L for Ben & Jerry’s or Häagen-Dazs. Last week it was a tangy summer berry ice cream, this week it’s lychee ripple.
